Santa Fe National Forest Community Meeting Sept. 19

SANTA FE — Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) officials will hold a community meeting 6 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 19 to discuss the upcoming Golondrino Prescribed Fire.

The meeting will be held at the Regina Fire Department at 923 N.M. 96 in Regina. 

Fire managers will be present to discuss the prescribed fire, which is tentatively scheduled to begin the week of Sept. 25. A final decision on whether to proceed with the project will depend on agency administrator approval, resource availability, fuel moisture levels, air quality and forecast weather. SFNF Seek Appropriate Weather To Conduct Golondrino, North Aztec Springs, Joaquin North Prescribed Fires

SANTA FE — Fire managers and district rangers on the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) are looking for appropriate weather conditions to implement three prescribed fires during the fall season.

The three prescribed fires include:

          • The 2,227-acre Golondrino prescribed fire in the Cuba district west of the communities of Llaves and north of Gallina;
          • The 650-acre North Aztec Springs, in the Española district, east of Santa Fe; and
          • The 1,750-acre Joaquin North prescribed fire will be in the Jemez district North of the Community of Gilman, west of Jemez Springs and south of Rancho de Chaparral

County Parks Division Schedules Tree Pruning Operations To Begin Monday Sept. 25 For Downtown Los Alamos

Los Alamos County Parks Division has contracted with Southwest Fire Defense to prune trees in Ashley Pond Park and along Central Avenue as part of ongoing maintenance.

Work has been scheduled to begin Monday, Sept. 25.

Pruning is an important management measure that will extend the health, safety, and life of trees. There are many different pruning needs depending on the location, size and growth habits of the trees.

FBI: Farmington Man Charged With Arson Faces Up To Life

ALBUQUERQUE – Alexander M.M. Uballez, United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico, and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Albuquerque Field Office, announced today that Ulrick Bruce Canyon appeared in federal court on a complaint charging him with arson of a dwelling within the maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States.
