Forest Service: Status Of Calf Canyon Fire As Deer And Elk Hunting Seasons Begin

SANTA FE – The Santa Fe and Carson national forests, along with the Interagency Management Team assigned to the Calf Canyon Fire, are working to find solutions to continually reopen areas of the forests as suppression repair work is completed and weather patterns change over the burn area.

Fire Relief Center Moved To New Mexico Highlands Univ.

The Fire Relief Center once located at the old Memorial Middle School gymnasium was moved to Sala de Madrid on the New Mexico Highlands University campus at the end of July.

The Center will continue to provide hot meals twice a day at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., and a range of services, including assistance with resources, accessing government relief, and navigating FEMA, available to those affected by the Calf Canyon/Hermits Peak Fires and the subsequent flooding.

Calf Canyon Fire Now 100 Percent Contained

SFNF News:

Sunday’s fire managers on the Calf Canyon Fire announced that it is 100 percent contained.

Containment signifies that a control line has been completed around the fire’s perimeter, which can reasonably be expected to stop the fire’s spread.

Based on robust monsoonal moisture and monitoring of the fire perimeter for the last month, fire mangers have high confidence there are no remaining heat sources and no additional growth will occur.

Bilingual PIOs Now Assisting On Calf Canyon Fire In Mora

Bilingual Public Information Officers (PIOs) with the Southwest Incident Management Team (SWIMT) began staging 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily Friday at the Mora Volunteer Fire Department. 

They will be onsite to help community members fill out Suppression Repair Forms, verify that forms are complete and entered in the queue. Information for emergency help and services related to post-fire flooding.

If forecasted weather is calling for flash flooding which could cause impacts to roadways making it unsafe for travel, personnel will not be present. Read More

Unitarian Church Hosts Final ‘Seed Ball Sunday’ Aug. 21

The last of three Seed Ball Sundays is 1-2:30 p.m., Aug. 21 in the Children’s Playground at the Unitarian Church of Los Alamos, 1738 N. Sage St.
