County: Stop Outdoor Watering During Set Phase

COUNTY News:

Officials from the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) are asking residents and businesses to stop outdoor water use until Los Alamos is no longer threatened by the Cerro Pelado Fire.

Residents should stop outdoor watering while in the Set phase of evacuation preparedness because outdoor watering negatively impacts pressure in the County’s water distribution system.

While the fire is not within the boundaries of that distribution system, water tanker trucks are being used to truck water closer to firefighting efforts.

LANL And Los Alamos County Moving To ‘Set’ Stage Monday As Precaution … There Is No Emergency And No Evacuation

Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los Alamos County and the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Los Alamos Field Office have issued the following update to the community on the status of the fire burning in the Jemez Mountains.

Red flag conditions (high wind, low humidity) over the last day and a half have caused the Cerro Pelado Fire in the Jemez Mountains to grow to more than 37,425 acres.

If the community does NOT evacuate, the senior centers will provide food service to Home Delivered Meals or Meals on Wheels and lunch in the drive thru.

UNM-LA Transitions To ‘Remote Operations’ Monday

UNM-LA News:

UNM-Los Alamos will transition to “remote operations” Monday, May 9, as the designation of Los Alamos County moves to “Set” status due to the Cerro Pelado Fire. 

Los Alamos County and Los Alamos National Laboratory announced this morning that as of 8 a.m. Monday, May 9, the area will be officially in the “Set” status, according to the “Ready, Set, Go protocol.

There are currently no evacuation orders for Los Alamos County.

Los Alamos Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Jose Delfin and Assistant Superintendent Jennifer Guy issued the following information regarding this week’s school closure announcement:

Los Alamos County will move into “set” status (at 8 a.m.) Monday, May 9, according to the “Ready, Set, Go” protocol. There are currently NO evacuation orders for Los Alamos County.

Out of an abundance of caution, Los Alamos Public Schools will be closed May 9-13, to ensure that students and staff are home with families if there is a need to evacuate.

Los Alamos County Closes Overlook Park To Public

COUNTY News:

Overlook Park will be closed to the public until further notice, effective Monday.

The Los Alamos County Community Services Department is closing the park so it may be used as a base camp for fire crews fighting the Cerro Pelado Fire.

Residents are asked to cease all vehicular and foot traffic into the park.
