Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los Alamos County and the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Los Alamos Field Office issued the following update to the community at 1:20 p.m. today on the status of the fire burning in the Jemez Mountains.
Six more interagency Hotshot teams have joined the crews responding to the Cerro Pelado Fire in the Jemez Mountains, with four deployed to the northeast side of the fire line, as officials prepare for several days of red flag conditions (high wind, low humidity).

Los Alamos County Provides List Of Shelter Resources So Residents Can Proactively Plan And Be Prepared Should Situation Change
COUNTY News:
Los Alamos County remains in the “Ready” phase of “ready, set, go” meaning there is no immediate emergency from the Cerro Pelado Fire. However, according to County Emergency Manager Beverley Simpson, residents should proactively consider where they could go, shelter animals and park vehicles if the County’s status were to change and residents needed to evacuate.

SFNF: FR 69-70 Re-open On Cuba Ranger District
SFNF News:
SANTA FE — Forest Roads (FR) 69 and 70 on the Cuba Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) opened Friday.
Forest personnel have cleared the roads of fallen trees and confirmed that they are dry enough to withstand motorized traffic.
FR 69 will be closed again May 15 through June 30 for elk calving season. This area is traditionally a favorite for cow elk and their calves. Cow elk are much more aggressive toward people during calving season. The SFNF tries to minimize elk encounters for public and wildlife safety by closing the road.

The community is invited to attend the Cerro Pelado Fire Community Briefing 5:30 p.m. today, May 6 in Griffith Gym at Los Alamos High School, at 1300 Diamond Dr.
The meeting also will be available virtually on Zoom, as well as streamed LIVE on the Cerro Pelado Fire Information Facebook page and on the Los Alamos County Cerro Pelado Fire Updates website.
