Los Alamos National Laboratory, Los Alamos County and the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Los Alamos Field Office update the community on the status of fire burning in Jemez mountains:

The Cerro Pelado Fire burning in the Jemez Mountains remains approximately 10 miles from the Laboratory boundary, according to US Forest Service estimates, and the use of aircraft throughout the day to drop water and fire retardants has been effective in reducing its spread.

Cerro Pelado Fire In Jemez Mountains Burns 4,688 Acres

SFNF News:

Firefighters, including those from Los Alamos battling the Cerro Pelado Fire today are focused on protecting the homes in Sierra de los Pinos and keeping the fire from crossing to the west of Forest Road (FR) 10.

Crews also are monitoring the southern edge of the fire and addressing a couple of spot fires out ahead of the eastern fire perimeter. Type 1 Team takes command of this operation Sunday.

The fire began Friday, April 22 on Forest Road 10 and N.M. 4, approximately 7 miles east of Jemez Springs. The fire has consumed 4,688 acres and is zero percent contained. The cause is unknown.

Calf Canyon & Hermits Peak Fires Combine: 42,341 Acres Burned

Structure loss has occurred due to the extreme weather experienced yesterday that caused uncontrolled fire line that impacted communities. Firefighters and law enforcement are gaining access to the areas that are safe to do so. Damage assessments will be ongoing and when the information is gathered, residents will be contacted by the county.

Governor Signs Emergency Declarations Providing $2.25 Million For Communities Battling/Recovering From Wildfires

STATE News:

SANTA FE — Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed executive orders Friday declaring states of emergency in the counties of Colfax, Lincoln, San Miguel, and Valencia, making available funding and state resources for communities battling ongoing wildfires and recovering from recent wildfires.

Together, these executive orders provide $2.25 million for the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management to assist the affected counties with emergency measures, help prevent additional damages, repair public infrastructure, and lessen the overall recovery time.
