PHILADELPHIA, PA — Lyme disease is among the most common vector-borne illnesses in North America, Europe, and some parts of Asia. A spirochete bacterium called Borrelia burgdorferi causes the disease, and blacklegged ticks (Ixodes scapularis) are responsible for the majority of North American transmissions.
 
Commonly known as deer ticks, blacklegged ticks exhibit two-year life cycles with the following four stages: eggs, larvae, nymphs, and adults. Larvae primarily attack white-footed mice, then become nymphs upon obtaining a blood meal.

ALBUQUERQUE ― Families facing Alzheimer’s disease will have access to a free class in White Rock offered by the Alzheimer’s Association, New Mexico Chapter.
 
“The Savvy Caregiver Program” is a FREE seven-session course presented by the Alzheimer’s Association, NM Chapter. The course is 6-8 p.m., Thursdays, May 4 through June 15. The classes will be hosted at the White Rock Senior Center 133 Longview Dr. The classes are open to all citizens of White Rock and surrounding communities.

7th Annual Run For Her Life Race Results

All proceeds in Sunday’s 7th Annual Run For Her Life 5K and 10K Races at East Park in Los Alamos were donated to Breast Cancer research.
 
In the 5K race, the top female finisher was Tammie Nelson with a time of 23:15 and the first male was Scott Valdez recording a 20:12. 
 
Erica Baron had a 40:12 for best female finisher in the 10K distance and Nathan Knapp was top male with a time of 40:12.
