LAVNS Holds Community Memorial Service Nov. 6

Each year the Los Alamos Visiting Nurse Service holds a Community Memorial Service to honor those we have loved and those who have died in the last year.
 
We would like to invite everyone in the community to this, our 20th Annual Memorial program.
 
A simple non-denominational service is held with a ceremony of flowers during which family members and friends have an opportunity to briefly remember their loved ones and place a flower into our memorial vase. (Flowers provided by Los Alamos Visiting Nurse Service).

This month’s Science On Tap features Maryline Ferrier who will talk about harnessing Actinium-225 for cancer treatment beginning at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20,  at UnQuarked Wine Room, 145 Central Park Square. LAPS Seeks 25 Students To Work On Tobacco-Free Campaigns

The Los Alamos Public Schools Prevention Office and Evolvement are seeking students who want to decrease the harmful and addictive use of commercial tobacco in New Mexico.

Twenty-five students are invited to a training scheduled for the morning of Oct. 24 at LAHS where students will accomplish the first goal of the program.

The training will include free lunch, the chance to win prizes and is open for youth in 9th through 12th grades.

New Hours, Services At Local Public Health Office

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Health has announced that it is changing the hours of operation and services provided at the Los Alamos Public Health Office due to staffing changes.

 

These changes are effective immediately.

 

The clinic at 1183 Diamond Dr. # D in Los Alamos, will open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday (closed noon – 1 p.m.), and closed Mondays.

Local Health Office Closes But Expected To Reopen

The New Mexico Department of Health’s Los Alamos County Health Office effectively stopped seeing patients Sept. 14 across from Los Alamos High School at 1183 Diamond Dr.

Public Health Nurse Manager Andrea Cunningham staffed the office for two years but was directed to tender her resignation after she asked for three weeks off without pay in September to accompany her husband on a trip to South Africa.

Due to a recent decision by a local medical clinic to terminate its agreement with Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) of New Mexico, Los Alamos Medical Center (LAMC) has received numerous inquiries about the hospital’s status with the insurance company.
