Letter To The Editor: Christine Bernstein An Invaluable Asset To LAPS

By KATARINA JUÁREZ
Former Student
Current Teacher

I am writing to voice my strong support for Chris Bernstein to continue serving on the Los Alamos School Board. As both a former student of Ms. Bernstein’s and a current teacher myself, I can confidently say that she is an invaluable asset to the Los Alamos Public Schools district as well as the students it serves.

I had the privilege of being in Ms. Bernstein’s Spanish classes in high school, as well as serving on the Student Council under her guidance. She brought creativity, passion, and high standards to the classroom and inspired me to Read More

Letter To The Editor: Coupland For An Effective School Board

By BILL PRIEDHORSKY
Los Alamos

I just came back from voting for Lauren Coupland for the school board, and urge you to do the same. Recently, the school board has struggled with its most important job – recruiting and overseeing a school superintendent. Whatever the details, having a superintendent last less than a year did the schools no good, and suggests weaknesses in the board’s hiring decisions and policies.

We need board members who understand schools from the inside out, and understand how to make effective and thoughtful decisions. This is not a time for business as usual on the Los Alamos Read More

Letter To The Editor: Sean Stanfield – The Schools Should Serve Everyone

By DAVID REAGOR
Los Alamos County Councilor

One of the candidates for the Los Alamos school board this year is Sean Stanfield. HIs platform is to emphasize academic excellence, extracurricular activities, and service to everyone. The other candidates endlessly discuss some groups as though the job of the schools is just to serve some part of the population. It is instead important to serve everyone. The schools are a public resource that should welcome and support everyone equally.

The schools recently sponsored Unity Day. This is only achieved by treating everyone equally, any other view Read More

Letter To The Editor: Love Of The Community, Sean For School Board District 3

By LYDELL BROWN
LAPS Parent and Volunteer

Without any hesitation, Sean Stanfield is the best candidate for School Board District 3. I have known Sean for over 10 years, raising children together and spending countless hours volunteering for the Los Alamos County Community. Sean loves Los Alamos County. He is proud to call our community home. He and his family have been staples of the soccer, basketball, and baseball/softball programs in the community for over a decade. Whether it is lining fields, providing a home for team dinners, driving players to away games, everyone knows that Sean is always Read More

Letter To The Editor: Endorsement Of Sean Stanfield

By TODD URBATSCH
Los Alamos

I took my high-schoolers to see family this last week, and the Midwesterners were concerned. “Why are you home? Your mom okay?” She’s fine, I say. It’s Fall Break. “Fall what?” Break. “Boys runnin’ grain cart?” No. <silence> “Well, i’n’t that sumthin’ then.” Something indeed. Makes me want to encourage you to vote for Sean Stanfield for School Board.

I’ve known Sean for most of his time here, and he is logical and sensible. He is a family man and a working man. His job has him managing people and technology at local and international levels. He understands how important Read More

Letter To The Editor: Bernstein For LAPS School Board

By JOHN PAWLAK
White Rock

What’s blue and smells like red paint? The answer for some questions can easily eludes us. The answer is blue paint! Now, who deserves your vote for LAPS School Board? That one is much easier to answer!

A vote for Christine Bernstein is a vote for focus and progress! When I first saw Chris in the classroom teaching her students, I was impressed at her level of energy and commitment to her students. Her ability to connect with others was a delight to watch.

Chris’ first term on the LAPS School Board mirrors this same commitment she has demonstrated over the years. Education is Read More

Letter To The Editor: The Outlier

By RAYMOND FAUS
Chris Bernstine’s overprotective brother
and Shrek doppelgänger

The system is set up to protect comfort, image, and clout. Even slogans like “transparency” or “openness” are in furtherance of getting one of three candidates onto the School Board for District 3.

I ask, where will you or anyone else be when that person is met with subtle suggestions to be quiet and not rock the boat? Where will you be when fanboy, cheap seat morality goes away after the campaign? This is the uphill climb of anyone seeking real change in a structure which upholds its image over the emotional wellbeing Read More

Letter To The Editor: Sean Is The Clear Choice For School Board District 3

By DONNA MACDONALD
Los Alamos

As we approach another school board election, it is important that all eligible voters participate because as we all know, the education of our children determines the future.

First, let me just say that we all make mistakes, but the best leaders acknowledge and learn from them. With Christine Bernstein, the big difference between her race 4 years ago and now, is that she has a record of actions to defend. She has not taken responsibility for her shortcomings and failures, which has cost us time and money, which we will never get back.

With Lauren Coupland, I am concerned Read More

Letter To The Editor: Lauren Coupland For LAPS School Board District 3

By REID PRIEDHORSKY
Los Alamos

I write to enthusiastically and without reservation recommend Lauren Coupland for LAPS school board district 3.

Regarding the other two candidates, Sean Stanfield’s campaign gives the impression of being only moderately serious. He has no campaign website I could find, and his campaign Facebook page is pretty sparse (and has a whopping 14 likes). His Oct. 10 letter is the first written public statement I could find about why he’s running and what he plans, and it’s quite vague. More concerning, he is enthusiastically supported by the local Republican Party. Read More
