Letter To The Editor: Vote Tim Bullock For Magistrate Judge

By DONNA MACDONALD
Los Alamos

At last, we have an extraordinary candidate willing to take on the important and serious job of Magistrate Judge for Los Alamos.

I met him in person recently and was impressed with his deep respect for law and order, as well as his vast experience as a trial and appellate lawyer. He was sincere, knowledgeable, and personable.

I am very concerned about crime in Los Alamos, especially the recent report of shoplifting at Smith’s Marketplace. We need a Magistrate Judge who will be impartial, fair, but hold individuals accountable for their wrongdoings.

Letter To The Editor: Response To Hanson & Skolnik

By DAREN SAVAGE
Los Alamos

This is a response to Hanson and Skolnik’s letter “Calling On Every Local Candidate To Publicly State Stance On 2020 Presidential Election And January 6, 2021 Insurrection” (Letter)

I can only laugh at Hanson and Skolnik’s letter.

Best quote: “Which Candidates are Election Deniers and Why it Matters”

Who are David Hanson and Richard Skolnik? Their letter seems official at first with its “facts that matter” bullet points and “Cosignatories” until we realize that Hanson and Skolnik and their “Cosignatories” are just normal voters like you and me (David Hanson didn’t Read More

Letter To The Editor: Only James Wernicke Answered Simple Candidate Questions

By JOHN ROBERTS
Los Alamos

Two weeks ago, I emailed every council candidate to try and get simple answers for some of the main issues for the town. I asked each candidate for a brief, simple, to the point, less than 3-sentence answer for each, to try and get useless fluff out.

So, we as voters could have a “cheat sheet” if you will. A simple document where we could quickly find where a candidate stands on the bigger broad issues and the best place to contact them for more information. Because let’s face it, most of us don’t want to or don’t have the time to read a long article that is 80 percent fluff answers Read More

He believes that county government should better plan, cultivate, encourage, and facilitate local business development. We appreciate his desire to enrich and Read More

Letter: Calling On Every Local Candidate To Publicly State Stance On 2020 Presidential Election And January 6, 2021 Insurrection

By DAVID HANSON and RICHARD SKOLNIK
Los Alamos

          • Which Candidates are Election Deniers and Why it Matters

Many voters in the US, including some candidates in local elections, believe that the last presidential election was rigged and that Joe Biden is not the legitimately elected president of the United States. They also deny that an insurrection took place at the Capital on January 6, 2021, whose aim was to subvert the peaceful transfer of presidential power as mandated by the US Constitution.

Yet, the facts of the matter are:

  • Joe Biden won the popular vote and the most electoral votes and, on December

Letter To The Editor: Endorsement For Randall Ryti

By JOHN MCCANN
Los Alamos

I am writing this letter to encourage you to consider supporting Randall Ryti in his run to continue his contribution to the County Council.

I have known Randy for 29 years. During this tenure, we have been business partners, professional colleagues, golfing buddies and close friends.

In my experience I have known Randy to be honest, hardworking, and diligent. He conducts his affairs with integrity and grace. He listens and he is contemplative. I have observed these traits throughout his work on the council and in his private life.

I will be supporting Randy this November Read More

Letter To The Editor: Ad Hoc Freelance Sex Educator

By JOHN GUSTAFSON
Los Alamos
I read Valerie Fox’s letter about the appearance of a book about drag queens in our public library and was filled with alarm … regarding the state of sex education in our country (link).
At first I was confused by the letter because I thought childhood innocence, which Fox believes is under assault, included things like dress up and pretend play. Then I had my “Aha!” moment.
Fox equates a man dressing as a woman (or a woman dressing as a man, I suppose) with sexual themes. Granted costumes and role play can be part of sexual interaction, but cross-dressing in and of itself

Letter To The Editor: Highly Recommend Ryti For Second Term

By CHICK and YVONNE KELLER
Los Alamos

We would like to highly recommend Randall Ryti for another term on the County Council.

Among his many interests and sober evaluation of proposed County actions is his abiding interest in the County’s Nature Center. Randy was involved early in the conception of the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC), being an early president and from his business experience setting up its financial procedures.

His early work involved making sure the Center was not involved in issues of concern but only in teaching young and old about the rich natural heritage Read More

Letter To The Editor: Calling On Taxpayer Funded Library To Respect Innocence Of All Children

By VALERIE FOX
Avid library patron and Mom
Los Alamos

Childhood should be sacred and spared from adult themes. Yet here, in Los Alamos, there is a complete disregard and outright assault against the preservation of childhood innocence. Our Mesa Public Library is outright putting adult sexual themes on intentional display for minors.

I took pictures of a book on display in the children’s section called, “If You’re a Drag Queen and You Know It” as well as pride bookmarks. There is ZERO reason to openly accost all children in this manner. It is indefensible. It is not an appropriate display for minors. Read More
