Letter To The Editor: Urging Council To Reject Reopening Resolution

By AARON WALKER
White Rock

The resolution proposed by Councilor Reagor for the County Council meeting tonight is high on rhetoric, but low on reality. (Resolution calling on governor and state health officials to end school and business lockdown… link).

A vast majority of council business is non-partisan, and the goal is the common good of the residents of the county. Dragging partisan politics and attacks on the Governor into County Council meetings is not productive in any way and only serves to harm the reputation of the Council further.

Let’s examine the bullet points of the resolution: Read More

Letter To The Editor: Appreciation For Superb County Government Folks That Sustain, Enhance Our Daily Lives

By DAVE LANNEN
White Rock

I’d like to thank the superb folks in our county government. Dealing with municipal personnel at all levels, I could not be more satisfied with the service provided. They are indeed dedicated to supporting our community.

Having lived in nine U.S. states, and in six countries, I have a profound appreciation for those in local government that sustain, and indeed, enhance our daily lives. Though largely unseen, without them – our society would not be so extraordinary. Read More

Letter To The Editor: Renovation Of Downtown Los Alamos

By ELIZABETH JACOB
Los Alamos

After reading the latest edition of the Los Alamos Daily Post (link) regarding the Council Session with suggestions for the use of the Reel Deal Theater, I was appalled by the suggestion that the Theater be made into a storage unit!

The last thing this town needs is a storage unit right adjacent to our library, Demo Garden and beautiful Ashley Pond!

We need attractions for our community residence, as well as vacationers, in our little gem of a city nestled next to the Jemez Mountains.

I am suggesting that we renovate the Theater into a Hands-On Children’s Museum Read More

Letter To The Editor: CB Fox And Reel Deal Proposed Purchases Not Such A Good Deal!

R. WAYNE HARDIE
Los Alamos

Los Alamos County (LAC) has less than 30 days left in the 90-day due diligence period to decide whether or not to purchase the CB Fox and Reel Deal buildings. It shouldn’t take more than a day to figure out that this is a terrible idea.

Since the County Council doesn’t know what to do with the CB Fox and Reel Deal buildings if they do purchase them, LAC hired a consultant to propose different options for the buildings. Some of the suggestions are laughable: for example, convert part of CB Fox back into a theatre. Remember, Reel Deal is already a theatre! For symmetry, would we Read More

Letter To The Editor: Response To Mr. Izraelevitz ‘Confronting Mistaken Allegiance’

By BARBARA A. SMITH
White Rock

If all the emphasis is on what happened on January 6, a lot of people are missing the point!

I don’t personally know anyone who truly “likes Trump”, or approves of his bombastic personality, his endless “tweets”, and other annoyances.

When I voted for President Trump back in 2016, I wasn’t voting for someone I would like to invite for dinner. I voted against Hillary Clinton and the Democrats’ tendencies to embrace Socialism, even when they don’t call it that.

My first reaction to the “I hate Trump!” crowd was to understand that many of them have secure jobs or secure retirement, Read More

Letter To The Editor: CAPTCHAs & COVID

By DOUG KEMP
Los Alamos

Visitors to the website: www.cvvaccine.nmhealth.org are encouraged to register for the Coronavirus Vaccine. It’s an easy process, until the end.

Pertinent information is gathered, and a decision must be made about notification: phone, text or email. But then a test must be passed. It’s called a “CAPTCHA”. Presumably, most pass the CAPTCHA. But there are those, such as myself, who fail. And for those who fail, online registration is an impossibility.

This angers me. Moreover, for those who browse the internet by way of a VPN or the TOR network, I suspect that the bar for Read More

Letter To The Editor: Confident We Can Make Vaccination Clinics Safer

By DIANN MILLS
Los Alamos

I agree completely with Ellen Walton’s letter (link). The drive-through vaccinations were so much safer.

Older people in frail health have been told to remain home and not to be around groups of people, but the vaccination clinic put everyone in a group setting, socially distanced, but still near lots of others for up to an hour.

That would make me uncomfortable after all the time I have stayed home and kept socially isolated.

Maybe split the clinic into several sites in addition to drive-through? I know the kind people running the vaccination clinics really care and I’m Read More

Letter To The Editor: County Council Needs To Get On Top Of Vaccination Process … No Excuses

By ELLEN WALTON
Los Alamos

In regard to the photos of the vaccine line cue on Canyon Road February 10, I was there and took similar photos. My mother was entering the building just after 1:30 p.m. with her caregiver and witnessed someone in the line near the entrance to the gym parking lot pass out. An ambulance had to be called to the scene. The 1B group are made up of elderly and mostly unwell people who should not be standing on the pavement in a long line.

The people running the clinic were kind and caring; they were just not prepared to handle the number of people registered. Griffith Gym is an awkward

Letter To The Editor: Response To Mr. Whiteside’s Column

By RICHARD SKOLNIK
Los Alamos

Whiteside: “LAMC Never Declines to Participate” (link)

I wanted to thank Mr. Whiteside for his February 10 column in the LADP: “LAMC Never Declines to Participate”. In fact, during such extraordinary times, I would welcome Mr. Whiteside’s communicating more with us about the work of the LAMC.

In addition, I must thank Mr. Whiteside for the role that the LAMC has played in vaccinating healthcare workers.

I also appreciate, despite the title of the article, that Mr. Whiteside did indicate the limited role that the LAMC is willing to play in the county’s vaccination Read More
