NMSP: Fatal Crash On I-40 Results In Multi-Vehicle Pileup

GUADALUPE COUNTY — Just before 10 a.m. Jan. 8, the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) responded to a fatal crash on Interstate 40 around milepost 291, east of Santa Rosa.

The initial investigation indicated that a semi-tractor trailer driven by a 21-year-old from Indianapolis, Ind., was traveling west on Interstate 40 when, for reasons still under investigation, it rear-ended a passenger van driven by David James McGarrah, 71, of Neosho, Mo., and occupied by his 70-year-old passenger.

Update: Right-Turn Lane On East Jemez To Close Jan. 11

COUNTY News:

The free right-hand turn lane from East Jemez Road to N.M. 4 will be closed Thursday, Jan. 11 so that crews can directionally bore a space for conduit to be installed at the median in the southeast corner of N.M. 4.

It is anticipated this closure will only be needed for one day.

Eastbound traffic on East Jemez Road will be able to turn right to access southbound N.M. 4 at the traffic signal at the intersection of East Jemez Road and N.M. 4.

Traffic headed in this direction Jan. 11, 2024 should expect delays.
