Local opera singers Heather Bingham and Olivia Hakel would like to invite all Los Alamos Community members to participate in a community sing-a-long of G.F. Handel’s Messiah, to be performed Sunday, Dec. 13, under the direction of Tjett Gerdom.
The first choir rehearsal for this event is 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8 at the Los Alamos Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 1967 18th St. in Los Alamos. Regular rehearsals will be held at 7 p.m. every Thursday and Sunday through December. Orchestra rehearsals will begin in November.

Musical Director Gretchen Amstutz brings magical sounds to the stage in Mel Brooks’ Young Frankenstein this weekend at Smith Auditorium.

Amstutz has been involved with the Los Alamos Light Opera for 30 years, with her first contribution as being in the chorus in the 1986 production of “My Fair Lady”. Since that time, she has been involved in more than 25 shows in Los Alamos and across Northern New Mexico.

The public is cordially invited to attend a free recital of outstanding young pianists who are the winners of the Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico (PMTNM) annual District Honors Competition.

Concordia Santa Fe’s Wind Orchestra presents “At the Museum,” a program featuring the latest wind arrangement of Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. 
 
The 40-member ensemble will present this exciting new adaptation of the landmark work, along with Norman Dello Joio’s similarly-themed piece, Scenes from “The Louvre,” under the direction of guest conductor Steven Davis of the University of Missouri  Kansas City Conservatory of Music.
