Piano Master Class with Laura Spitzer Offered

The Los Alamos Music Teachers Association is sponsoring a piano master class with Dr. Laura Spitzer 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 29 at UNM-Los Alamos. 

Spitzer will coach 20 Los Alamos students in works from the piano repertoire. The public is welcome to attend any or all classes for a nominal fee of $5 for the entire day.

Los Alamos County Summer Concert Series Celebrating 25 Years!

The upcoming Los Alamos County Summer Concert Series will mark 25 years of rockin Los Alamos. The 2014 Series will start May 16 at Overlook Park with Zoe Muth and the Lost High Rollers.

On May 23, we’ll have our first concert on the new stage at the beautifully remodeled Ashley Pond. A number of dates have been finalized but I’m still working on this year’s schedule.

Los Alamos Arts Council’s Brown Bag Performance Series continues at noon, Wednesday at Fuller Lodge with Franz Schubert–Piano Quintet in A major, D.667: Allegro vivace, Andante, Scherzo, Tema, Finale.

The Quintet is nicknamed “The Trout” because the fourth movement has variations on this Lied sung by mezzo soprano Pauline Schneider.

The Los Alamos Community Winds will celebrate two anniversaries at their concert Saturday: the bicentennial of Richard Wagner’s birth, and the 75th anniversaries of two of the most beloved Hollywood motion pictures, “Gone With the Wind” and “The Wizard of Oz.”

New York City Jazz musicians Roy Dunlap (piano) and Marcus Parsley (trumpet) will perform an evening of jazz at 7 p.m. Friday, March 7 at Fuller Lodge. There will be a short opening performance, featuring a Los Alamos Acoustic Swing Trio. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for students and seniors.

Local Cellist Will Perform Dvorak ‘Cello Concerto’

Peter Stoffer, a Los Alamos National Laboratory visiting graduate student from Switzerland is also a cellist. He will perform as a soloist with the Santa Fe Community Orchestra in the Dvorak Cello Concerto in b minor Op.104  at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23 at the St. Francis Auditorium in Santa Fe.

Also on the program is the world premiere of Land of Enchantment by Michael Bowen, winner of the SFCO 2013 Composition Competition and Symphony No.1 by Jean Sibelius
