Today is Martin Luther King Jr Day, a federal holiday held on the third Monday of January. It celebrates the life and achievements of Martin Luther King Jr., an influential American civil rights leader. He is most well-known for his campaigns to end racial segregation on public transport and for racial equality in the United States.

He was an American Baptist minister, activist, and political philosopher who was one of the most prominent leaders in the civil rights movement from 1955 until his assassination in 1968.

Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) has announced that four teachers recently obtained their National Board Certification (NBCT). Stephanie Abney, Bethany Scott, Julia Sheppard and Esther Smidt completed the requirements to be recognized as National Board Certified Teachers.
