In 1944, General Leslie Groves commissioned a history of the Manhattan Project. The Department of Energy has just released the 36-volume, declassified history. There are many interesting stories in the texts, from the science to counterespionage programs. The Santa Fe Council on International Relations presents a world affairs lecture by Cheryl Rofer on disarming Syria’s chemical weapons Thursday, Sept. 4.

The Northern New Mexico Citizens’ Advisory Board (NNMCAB) held elections at its July 30 board meeting at La Fonda on the Plaza in Santa Fe.

Los Alamos resident Allison Majure was elected to serve as vice chair. Majure works in communications at the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities. She has served on the NNMCAB since March 8, 2012.

C-130 Airplane Finally Arrives In Los Alamos!

The demilitarized C-130 airplane from Kirtland Air Force Base finally arrived at N.M. 4 and Rover Boulevard at 4:30 p.m. today after being delayed since Wednesday trying to obtain permission to pass through Santa Fe. The plane is surplus from Kirtland AFB and has been given to Los Alamos National Laboratory for emergency response training at Technical Area 49. Former Sandia Scientist Pleads Guilty to Taking Government Property to China

ALBUQUERQUE—Jianyu Huang, a scientist formerly employed by Sandia Corporation (Sandia) at Sandia National Laboratories (SNL), pleaded guilty Monday to making a false statement and unlawfully transporting converted government property in interstate and foreign commerce.

The guilty plea was announced by U.S. Attorney Damon P. Martinez and Special Agent in Charge Carol K.O. Lee of the FBI’s Albuquerque Division.
