Engineering News-Record (ENR) Southwest announced that the New Mexico Consortium’s new Biological Laboratory and Greenhouse in Los Alamos is one of the Merit Award winners of the prestigious Best Projects Award for 2013.

LANL Hosts Additional Benefits Information Session

Los Alamos National Laboratory’s Benefits Office has added an additional information session regarding the Laboratory’s 2014 health plan offerings.

The session is 1-3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3 at Crossroads Bible Church, 97 East Road in Los Alamos.

The session provides a convenient, additional choice for spouses or same-sex domestic partners of Los Alamos National Security, LLC employees to learn about the 2014 plan options.

Council Approves Cooperative Fire Services Agreement With NNSA

LANL: Water for Future Mars Astronauts?

This image shows two areas on Mars in a location named Rocknest that were scooped out by the Curiosity Rover last year. Researchers took samples of the areas to determine whether they were wetter underneath or whether they dried out after scooping. Researchers found that soil moisture was consistent at the surface and underneath. Nevertheless, there is a small amount of water in the soil that astronauts might be able to use to sustain themselves. LANL’s Charlie McMillan Plays Dead in Arsenic and Old Lace

Arsenic and Old Lace returns to the Los Alamos Little Theatre stage 69 years after its 1944 Los Alamos debut as the opening production of LALT’s 70th season.

In the opening production of Arsenic, the dead body was played by none other than J. Robert Oppenheimer, a role reprised Sept. 14 by current Los Alamos National Laboratory Director Charlie McMillan.

McMillan was deemed a standout in his realistic portrayal of a dead man.

Los Alamos National Laboratory has awarded master task order agreements to three small businesses for environmental support services work worth up to $400 million within a five-year period.

LANL Announces Scholarship Winners

LANL FOUNDATION News:

Thirteen Northern New Mexicans have received $1,000 Returning Student/Regional College scholarships from the Los Alamos National Laboratory Employees’ Scholarship Fund.

The awards help students returning to a formal education for certification or a two-year degree at an accredited regional college. Many are pursuing new careers.

Funding comes from donations by LANL employees and a matching amount from Los Alamos National Security, LLC., and the scholarships are administered by the LANL Foundation.
