This transplanted guy has had it with Los Alamos.

Scenically, it’s a geological utopia. Honeycombed with breathtaking hiking trails. Indescribably beautiful. A nearly perfect climate. Snow accumulation? New Englanders—as well as northern tier states—would be laughing at us. Coloradans too. Northern New Mexico almost always gets a peck on the cheek while they take the full facial blow, winter after winter.

Saturday, April 20, at the PEEC Earth Day festival, Dr. Chick Keller will share stories of eclipse missions in the 1970s.

Dr. Keller will share insights about the 1970s airborne studies of the sun’s corona during total solar eclipses – conducted at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory.

By taking the eclipse observations airborne, lab scientists, including Keller and Art Cox, were able to extend their study of totality, as well as reduce interference from the atmosphere.

2024 LANL Scholars Announced: 128 Recipients Will Receive Scholarships Worth Over $880,000

Española – The LANL Foundation has announced this year’s recipients of four-year undergraduate degree scholarships. A total of 128 Northern New Mexico students pursuing bachelor’s degrees will receive 132 scholarships worth more than $884,000.

The LANL Foundation’s four-year undergraduate scholarships are open to students pursuing a degree in any field of study. The scholarships range from $1,000 for a single year up to $20,000 over four years. Recipients are selected based on a demonstrated commitment to academic achievement, leadership and service.
