Isaac Anthony Hayden, 16, of Los Alamos, passed away Tuesday, March 12, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, James “Jim” Hayden. 

Isaac was born June 11, 1996 to David and Jennifer Hayden. Isaac was a joyful young man with a loving and generous spirit for everyone he met. 

Isaac was accepting of others and loved to be with people. His sweet spirit and sense of humor will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

Elaine Teresa Doyle Stratton, 83, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at the family home in Los Alamos from complications of leukemia.

She was born March 23, 1929, to Colonel Hugh and Gertrude Mayr Doyle in Fort Totten, NY. Her father was later transferred to Fort Hamilton, New York, and she called Brooklyn home until, at the age of 20.

She came to Los Alamos from Oswego State Teachers College (NY) to teach primary grades in the Los Alamos Public Schools. She later earned a Masters in Education from New York University.

Newby Gene Ellington, 79, of Los Alamos, New Mexico, died peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013 after a long and difficult battle with cancer. 

He spent his last weeks, days and hours in the loving embrace of his wife Susan, his children and grandchildren. 

Newby was the third child born to John Robert “Uncle Bob” Ellington and Martra Leila Ellington. He was born Sept. 29, 1933 and raised in Saxapahaw, North Carolina. 

He graduated from Eli Whitney High School in Alamance County,  and has a large and loving extended family.

Selma M. Dion (nee Bakunas) was a Los Alamos resident from 1951 until moving to Cleveland Heights, Ohio in 2002.

She is survived by her son Paul, grandchildren Lorelei, Angelee, Noah and Sarah, and by great grandchildren Lucinda and Miranda.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, and daughter, Judith.

Laboratory retiree, Eugene Henderson Eyster of Los Alamos passed away at Sombrillo Care Center February 17, 2013. Gene was 98 years old.

He was born on March 21, 1914 in Wheaton, Minnesota. He married Joyce Krenz, also of rural Minnesota on January 6, 1942. They celebrated 71 years of married this past January.

They spent four years at the Bureau of Mines in Pittsburgh, followed by work in Indianhead, Maryland and Washington, D. C. In 1948 they came to Los Alamos. Gene retired from the Lab in 1980.

Gene graduated from Wheaton High School.

Roddy Burke Walton, long-time resident of Los Alamos, New Mexico, passed into the arms of his Savior on Feb. 19, 2013 after a lengthy illness.

Roddy was born in Goldthwaite, Mills County, Texas Dec. 9, 1931 and graduated from Texas A&M University in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science in physics and the University of Wisconsin in 1957 with a PhD in nuclear physics. 

He spent the summers of 1953-1955 at Los Alamos National Laboratory as a research assistant.
