By LYNNE KITO
ANIMAL AMIGOS

Jemez Valley Animal Amigos is grateful to have been included in the Holiday Donations from the Angel Paw Trees in Los Alamos.

We received many fabulous items for our rescue pets, from dog beds to cat toys. Everything will be useful for our upcoming rescues.

In 2015, we assisted 100 rescue animals from the Jemez Valley area. All donations of products or money are used directly to rehabilitate the animals and make them ready for adoption into long term loving homes.

All efforts to help us and the animals are greatly appreciated.

Letter To The Editor: I Told You So…

By GERALD ANTOS
Los Alamos

I am going to relish in saying I told you so, but you see, our wonderful government has once again found a way to keep on taxing us instead of giving it back.

Yes HB33 will not raise our taxes but when that last tax increase was instituted it was promised to end and be no longer needed. But I want it back and actually need the money for improvements to my own house!

Doesn’t it seem strange that our govt. thinks our schools are not good enough for our children to learn in and that’s the excuse they use?

Actually our oldest schools are better than 90 percent

Bible Opinion Discussion At La Vista Church Jan. 6

LVC News:

The Bible is arguably the most influential book in history. Regardless of whether a person believes in the Bible’s God Yahweh or not, one cannot ignore the impact of the Bible upon history and upon society today.

That being the case, perhaps the problem we have is not whether we choose to follow it or not, but that the vast majority of people, Christians included, have an opinion about what the Bible says and yet have not truly read it for themselves in its entirety.

And so beginning Jan. 6, La Vista Church invites you to come and give authority to your opinion.

Letter To The Editor: A Vote For HB33 Does Not Increase Taxes

By KURT STEINHAUS, Superintendent
Los Alamos Public Schools

The January 2016 Special Election provides an opportunity to support students and teachers in Los Alamos.

A vote for the HB33 Mill Levy does not increase taxes and will help fund classroom computers, equipment for physical education and music programs, activity busses,  heating and cooling systems, and even roof repairs. The HB33 funding also pays for preventative building maintenance that, in the long run, saves money for our schools.

Yes, it is all about our students and teachers. Imagine a school-age student who

Letter To The Editor: More Details About REAL ID

By LEE GRAVES
Canon, New Mexico

I just finished reading the article from New Mexico Democrats that state that “as of right now, there is no need to obtain a passport to enter a federal facility or board a commercial flight.”

However, upon checking the DHS website (https:////www.dhs.gov/real-id-enforcement-brief) it clearly states that New Mexico did not receive an extension for 2016 and will be subject to enforcement starting Jan. 16, 2016.

Are the Democrats behind the times, or are they deliberately trying to confuse the issue? For me, I have renewed my passport so I can continue Read More

Letter To The Editor: Thanking Los Alamos!

By ELLEN MORRIS BOND
Self Help, Inc.

Over the past month, the Salvation Army bells have been ringing in Los Alamos and White Rock.

Thanks to our generous community, the bell ringers raised just shy of $20,000, all of which is used to help families in Los Alamos County.

The organizers are extremely appreciative of Smith’s hospitatility in welcoming the bell ringers both in White Rock (Manager Cindy Doty) and Los Alamos (Kathryn Fulton and Dan). Thanks also to the individual musicians, the Lads of Enchantment, and the Ukulele group who provided holiday cheer.

Letter To The Editor: Catholicism, Gayness, Blind Men, And Elephants

By KAHLIL SPENCER
Los Alamos

Having neither the expertise nor the interest in engaging either Roy Moore or Rev. Glenn Jones in a discussion of Catholicism vs. Gay Love, I will offer this. The story of the Blind Men and the Elephant.

John Godfrey Saxe’s (1816-1887) version of the famous Indian legend,

It was six men of Indostan
To learning much inclined,
Who went to see the Elephant
(Though all of them were blind),
That each by observation
Might satisfy his mind.

The First approach’d the Elephant,
And happening to fall
Against his broad and sturdy side,
At once began to bawl:

Letter To The Editor: Response To Mr. Moore

By Rev. Glenn Jones
Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church

Ray Moore (“Gay Love”, 12/31/15) is correct in stating that the true Christian is to hate no one, but exhibits a fundamental misunderstanding of the Christian interpretation of the Bible: the letters of Paul and the other authors of the New Testament are not in opposition to Jesus’ teachings, but rather are complementary to them.

Another fundamental misunderstanding that Moore (and many others) seems to hold is that all (or a great many) Christians “hate” homosexuals; that is absolutely incorrect. Roman

Letter To The Editor: Gay Love

By ROY M. MOORE
Los Alamos

In this season of love, I would like to remind everyone that the message of Jesus was to love everyone.

We are to love our neighbors, love those who are different, and even to love our enemies. Too many times lately I’ve seen others express hatred for gays in the name of religion, refusing to make them cakes or take their pictures.

One of our state congressman is even introducing a law to allow some to hate in the name of religion. I don’t know what religion he is talking about, but I hope it’s not Christianity.

There is no doubt that
