Letter To The Editor: The Urantia Book

By ROY M. MOORE
Los Alamos

Dear Editor and local Pastors:

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father who is in heaven,
Hallowed by your name.
Your kingdom come; your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our bread for tomorrow;
Refresh our souls with the water of life.
And forgive us every one our debts.
As we also have forgiven our debtors.
Save us in temptation, deliver us from evil,
And increasingly make us perfect like yourself.

Jesus never intended for anyone to have a standard prayer as He taught we should each speak our honest and sincere heart as we talk with

Letter To The Editor: Thoughts On Conservatism…

By ROY M. MOORE
Los Alamos

As an independent conservative, I think I have a right to challenge others who call themselves conservative.

I assume the root word of conservative is conserve, so the first question to ask of anyone of that persuasion, is “What things do you think are important to conserve?”

The human beings on this planet are by far the most important resource, so I think they should be conserved first. In my view, that would mean enough food and medicine for life, a free education, a good job of their choice, and an opportunity to retire with dignity when their work is

Letter To The Editor: About TV News…

By ROY M. MOORE
Los Alamos

TV news. Is it an oxymoron?

As a news junkie, I’m continually disappointed by the lack of news on our three “local” stations. The same stories are played over and over and the only talent I think it takes to be a news reader, is to be able to read the same story over and over and pretend it is new.

The best I can tell, the root of News is New. Is new news redundant? Is old news, news at all?

As I tune in to local news, I hear the same stories. But wait! Now they tell me they have some “real” news, but I have to wait until after the commercial before they will

Letter To The Editor: Free Money Is Killing New Mexico

By PAUL J. GESSING, President
New Mexico’s Rio Grande Foundation

Nothing seems to unite New Mexicans like the desire for “free” money.

Over the past few weeks,  no fewer than three opinion pieces have run in various media outlets in support of Medicaid expansion. Two of these articles were from Democratic legislators.

While “compassion” and alleged health care improvements – unsupported by real-world data – were cited, a central argument involved “free” money that is flowing into the State from Washington.

Recently, I had the chance to testify before an interim committee of the Read More

Letter To The Editor: Stylists Bring Smiles To Food Pantry

By JUNE GLADNEY
LA Cares

Truly amazing things can happen when we work together!  Often it’s the little things that make the biggest difference in people’s lives. Last week, the scissors and the clippers were hard at work at the LA Cares December Food Pantry Distribution.

A temporary barbershop/beauty salon was set up and had a party atmosphere as two hair stylists and one barber offered free “Haircuts for the Holidays” to our clients.   Clients ranged from a mom spending a half hour away from her family being pampered to a mom with her three young sons, and another mom who said she Read More

Letter To The Editor: Science Or Hokum?

By DAREN SAVAGE
Los Alamos

In his letter to the editor (Los Alamos Carbon Neutrality Goal) here, Mr. Fox notes that the cost of fossil fuels will rise in the long term as the reason Los Alamos should adopt Carbon Neutrality.

I would point him to two stories appearing in Tuesday’s Wall Street Journal that indicates the price of natural gas “plunged to a 14-year low” and the cost of Oil “recently rose 53 cents”, a rise after multi-year lows.

Letter To The Editor: Los Alamos Carbon Neutrality Goal

By WILL FOX
Los Alamos

The Board of Public Utilities will discuss Carbon Neutrality during its regular monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday in Council Chambers, 1000 Central Ave. The meeting is open to the public. Following are some things to consider:

Why should Los Alamos County adopt a goal for Carbon Neutrality (CN) by 2040?

Because it just makes good sense. Becoming carbon neutral will reduce electricity costs in the long run. It is better for the environment, and it increases national security. It is an action that will improve the quality of life for future generations as well as our own. Read More

Review by By MARY HELEN KLARE
Los Alamos

Johann Sebastian Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin, completed around 1720 (he was 35), are thought to be a grand intellectual and musical achievement universally revered by violinists and listeners alike for their spiritual essence.

The Solo masterwork consists of three sonatas, each with four traditional slow-fast-slow-fast movements, and three partitas, each comprised of a series of dance movements. Characterized by supreme virtuosic demands, the violinist is required to play multiple Read More

Letter To The Editor: Islamophobia – Shame On US(A)

By DOUG REILLY
Los Alamos

In a letter to New Mexican editors: “Very un-American: I am ashamed to live in a state that announces its ignorant reluctance to accept Syrian refugees. Gov. Susana Martinez, you should be ashamed. Mr. Trump, Mr. Rubio, have you no shame in using the deaths in Paris as a drum to beat for your election?”

I didn’t write this, but I agree completely; it is not just Trump, Rubio, and Susana: it’s the citizens who stand up and cheer, and the pundits who rail against President Obama and call for stricter background screening. We should look at our more civilized neighbors to the north Read More

Letter To The Editor: Circuit Train Against Citizens United

By DAN FITZGERALD
Los Alamos

The war on terror has not made the planet safer as a terror state has risen in place of a dictatorship after very brave, strong people stood up to our lethal occupation and are not now the vast majority of the population there.

I trained in boxing my whole life. However no matter how hard I trained I still wanted to see how good I was. Now training in Krav Maga – the Israeli Combat System using instinct – I never feel the need to prove myself to anybody. You are practicing moves and striking shields without any brain damage.

If you’re going to pick a martial Read More
