Letter To The Editor: Branding Of Two Mountain Towns

By JEFFREY BLOCH
Los Alamos

Please bear with me as I want to couch my comments on branding and marketing Los Alamos by telling a “tale of two mountain towns”.

I agree with those who say we need a “branding” that makes sense to outsiders that makes this town attractive for businesses and new residents to move here and tourists to come.

External forces on the lab will eventually transform the town into something very different than what started through the efforts of the eclectic collection of bright and motivated people who founded it.

We really need to bring in enthusiastic Read More

Letter To The Editor: New Food Rule At Los Alamos Golf Course Questioned

By SUSAN KESTELL
Los Alamos

I was just speaking with my co-worker, Jimmy Dabney, about a change this season at the local golf course.

The county website states “At this time, PLEASE remember there is NO OUTSIDE FOOD OR BEVERAGE permitted at the Los Alamos Golf Course.” Is the county really trying to say that I can no longer pack a bottle of coke and baggies of nuts and raisins for my husband for his Saturday 18 holes?

All the years that the golf course has been open, people have always been welcome to pack a cooler for their golf cart or put food and beverages in their golf bag. Since we got a new building we Read More

Letter To The Editor: Follow Up On WR Visitor Center

By CINDY BOE
Los Alamos

For the last two years, I have participated in the artist markets held in the summer months at the White Rock Visitor Center and having met and conversed with visitors, I can tell you that half of the people who use that facility to park and ride to Bandelier have no idea what Los Alamos has to offer.

During conversations some of the vendors will try to steer folks to Los Alamos upon their return but there is little to no indication in the Visitor Center that there is another part of town just up the hill. Read More

Letter To The Editor: Response To Dave Fox’s Generous Offer To White Rock Visitor Center

By E. ALAN WADLINGER
Los Alamos

I thank Dave Fox of CB FOX for his timely response to my editorial of May 12 in the Los Alamos Daily Post.

I hope that the issue of advertising Los Alamos at the White Rock Visitor Center (WRVC) is resolved ASAP so that our visitors will benefit by easily discovering what Los Alamos has to offer and that our business community will prosper by this discovery.

I also thank CB FOX for having those great Los Alamos souvenirs that I can send to distant friends and relatives.

May Dave Fox’s generous offer of another display case to the WRVC be accepted. Read More

Letter To The Editor: An Offer In Time For Tourist Season

By Dave and Anne Fox
CB FOX

Thanks to Alan Wadlinger for his commentary in the Los Alamos Daily Post (May 12, 2015) regarding lack of display space for local businesses and attractions at the White Rock Visitor Center.

So’s not to put words in his mouth, it’s worth repeating what Alan, not a business person, wrote:

It was brought to my attention by another White Rock resident, that the White Rock Visitor Center almost totally ignores the town of Los Alamos.

Letter To The Editor: Provide Your Input About Permitting And Inspections Today!

By DAVID CARR
Los Alamos

The Los Alamos County Council is meeting at 7 p.m. today, May 12, at the White Rock Fire Station. The council will be reviewing the county’s permitting process.

I have been frustrated working with the county on permitting issues for a local non-profit. I have also heard much frustration from citizens and business owners about how difficult it is to deal with the County when making renovations or building a new building. Some on the council appear to be skeptical about this frustration.

The only way we can change the culture at the county is by being vocal about Read More

Letter To The Editor: White Rock Visitor Center Says NO To Los Alamos

By E. ALAN WADLINGER
Los Alamos

It was brought to my attention by another White Rock resident, that the White Rock Visitor Center almost totally ignores the town of Los Alamos.

As you walk into the visitor center, you will see a single display advertising that, in Los Alamos, you can buy chocolate and then work it off at the local YMCA (how exciting does it get!). Showing only one retailer implies that there is nothing else worthwhile to visit in our town. A visitor center’s main purpose should be to showcase the town and entice visitors to spend their money here by identifying the Los Alamos and Read More
