Regarding Ellen Walton’s Letter to the Editor (click here) about the current filming in White Rock, I’d like to add my two cents.

A few years back there was a movie production of some weeks’ duration on Chamisa Street in Los Alamos. The nominal site was two houses down from mine, which is on a corner. There were numerous offensive aspects to this:

I agree with Diana McPherson of White Rock regarding the county’s use of herbicides. Last year the county sprayed herbicide along the sidewalks at Western Area Park, a park well used by families and pet owners, killing not only the minimal amount of weeds that might have existed but all the grass bordering the sidewalk to within six inches.

The irony of this procedure is that it left the borders looking terrible and the weeds survived and came back during the summer sprinkling with a vengeance!

Letter to the Editor: Holding People to Higher Standard Should Be Only Way to Go

There is an opinion piece in the Los Alamos Daily Post today (April 4) about not criticizing the police for killing people because ‘we haven’t walked in their shoes.’

Under this logic we shouldn’t criticize teachers for mistreating students because after all ‘we haven’t walked in their shoes.’ Nor should we criticize anyone with a difficult job who mistreats people, prison guards who kill inmates, priests who molest children, the list goes on.

As a citizen of White Rock, I am requesting the county cease their planned use of the chemical herbicides, Dupont HYVAR X-L and Monsanto Ranger Pro, during the week
of April 7 “along the gutter/pavement lines throughout the community.”

The active ingredient in HYVAR X-L is 5-Bromo-3-sec-butyl-6-methyluracil, more commonly known as Bromacil. Bromacil stops the photosynthesis process of the weeds.

Letter to the Editor: In Support of Los Alamos County Council Anti-Trapping Resolution

I urge the County Council to vote in favor of the proposed resolution to support banning trapping on public lands in the County.

 
Trapping is an outdated, barbaric and cruel practice that is completely unnecessary for predator control [also a questionable goal] and has no current scientific or other support (despite recent protestations of the current editor/publisher of the Monitor otherwise).
