I first heard the term “transgender” in 2001, when I was a senior at LAHS. Although the school had started a Gay/Straight Alliance (GSA) the year before, it wasn’t until the spring semester of 2001 that they announced their meetings over the school loudspeaker, inviting the whole student body. A few friends and I decided to check it out, and it was there that I first heard the word. I had no idea what it meant, and was too afraid to ask, but something deep inside said that maybe, just maybe, this was me.
When I got to college, and finally had access to both the internet and an extensive Read More
By LAURI Van LYSSELI am a Republican. A conservative. A Christian. I am probably considered to be the least likely advocate and supporter of the LGBTQ community. But I also have two lesbian daughters who are married to two beautiful women.

I personally think Pete Sheehey has enabled the almost constant Read More
By MARCO V. LUCERO, SheriffAs a law enforcement officer of 30 years, and the elected Sheriff of Los Alamos County for the past seven years, I have had the opportunity to meet and know both Pete Sheehey and his opponent in the Democratic primary for the House of Representatives, District 43. Both are current members of the Los Alamos County Council.
Witnessing how both work and communicate has led to these findings. Pete Sheehey is a true public servant, and he is not influenced by personal agendas or bias. He was not intimidated by the controversy over the role of the Sheriff and did Read More
By GEORGE CHANDLERI live with Christine Chandler, who’s running for District 43 State Rep. I see how she does stuff, and you should want her to do stuff for you.
When she learned there were some irregularities in the travel reimbursements of the Regional Coalition, of which she was an officer and a representative of the county, she identified the source of the problems in the travel policies, brought them to public attention, helped to fabricate a solution, and had the solution in place while some others were still looking for ways to use the situation for personal political gain.
