FBI: Jury Finds Taos Man Guilty Of First-Degree Murder And All Other Charges Related To Brutal 2023 Pueblo Slaying

ALBUQUERQUE — A federal jury returned guilty verdicts against Zebadiah Romero, 37, on all charges for the October 2023 premeditated murder of a Taos Pueblo man with a single gunshot to the back of his head. The verdict came after a weeklong trial and less than a day of deliberation.

According to evidence presented at trial, on Oct. 30, 2023, Romero, a non-Indian, shot and killed John Doe, an enrolled member of the Taos Pueblo, inside John Doe’s residence on the Taos Pueblo.

State Police Search For Suspect In Deadly Socorro Shooting

Update: Following a nearly 48-hour manhunt aided by the Socorro Police Department Friday, Nov. 21, 2025, NMSP agents located Anthony Alvarado at a residence in Magdalena. At approximately 8 p.m., officers with the NMSP Tactical Team surrounded the home and initiated callouts ordering Alvarado to surrender. FBI: Morgan Lake Man Charged With Assault

ALBUQUERQUE — A Morgan Lake man has been charged with assaulting an officer using his vehicle.

According to court documents, Sept. 28, 2025, officers from the Navajo Nation Police Department responded to a report of a suspected drunk driver. When they arrive in the area, the driver, Kendall Benally, 42, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, refused to obey commands and attempted to flee in his vehicle, striking and injuring an officer and a marked unit in the process. LAPD UPDATE: Main Hill Road Has Reopened

LAPD News:

UPDATE: The Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) reports that the Main Hill Road has reopened following this morning’s two-vehicle accident.

“The Main Hill is now open, and all the involved vehicles have been removed,” Cmdr. Daniel Robert said. “We thank the community for their patience.”

Cmdr. Roberts said that one of the individuals involved in the accident did sustain injuries and was transported to Los Alamos Medical Center for treatment.

The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Department has taken over the scene and will determine whether either driver involved in the accident is cited. Read More

FBI: Shiprock Man Pleads Guilty To Second-Degree Murder In Shiprock Home Break-In

ALBUQUERQUE — A Shiprock man admitted to breaking into a home and killing a man who tried to stop him from attacking another resident.

According to court documents, June 27, 2025, Armondo Paul, 25, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, went to a home in Shiprock, New Mexico. He shut off the electricity to the home, then kicked open the back door and assaulted one of the occupants. The FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office and the FBI’s Farmington Office are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the individual or individuals responsible for the death of a man on either the evening of Nov. 9, 2025, or the early morning of Nov. 10, 2025, in Upper Fruitland, New Mexico.

Interior Department Announces Major Fentanyl Seizure Following Joint Operation On Pueblo Of Isleta Reservation

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Department of the Interior today announced the successful seizure of more than 37,000 fentanyl pills during a coordinated drug interdiction operation on the Pueblo of Isleta Reservation in New Mexico, led by the Bureau of Indian Affairs Division of Drug Enforcement and Pueblo of Isleta Tribal Police.

The operation, which also included the Homeland Security Task Force, resulted in the seizure of approximately 37,300 fentanyl pills with a street value of nearly $1.5 million and $37,877 in cash.
