PECOS The New Mexico State Police was notified that Saturday, Oct. 14, 2017 the Alamosa County Sheriff’s Department in Colorado arrested Tranquilino Valencia for his outstanding warrant from his involvement in a robbery and carjacking in the Pecos area Oct. 13, 2017.

Los Alamos resident Greg White has filed a verified petition for a writ of prohibition against the Los Alamos County Council and the Incorporated County of Los Alamos with the New Mexico Supreme Court requesting that the Court exercise jurisdiction. The petition, filed Oct.17, lists Los Alamos County Sheriff Marco Lucero as an interested party.

White recently announced that he will be a candidate for sheriff in 2018.

County Settles Tort Claim For $4,000

A suit filed against the Los Alamos County Council, Police Chief Dino Sgambellone, Ofc. David Bradshaw and Ofc. Joseph Ortega seeking damages for assault, battery and false imprisonment under the New Mexico Tort Claims Act has been dismissed and the County has agreed to pay Andrew Abeyta $4,000 in settlement.

Under the terms of the agreement, which was executed in September, Abeyta will pay all his own attorney’s costs and the County will not admit to any fault or wrongdoing.

New Mexico State Police Investigates Officer Involved Shooting In Belen

BELEN  Around 8:30 a.m. Monday, a New Mexico State Police patrol officer stopped to conduct a welfare check on a black Nissan Altima parked on N.M. 60 east of mile marker 166. 
 
The vehicle, later determined to be stolen, was parked on the side of the rural highway. During the welfare check, the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Mykl Chavez (28) of Belen, tried to run over the officer and the officer fired his department issued firearm. Chavez then fled from the officer and a pursuit ensued.

Rio Rancho PD Seeks Help Finding Former Los Alamos Resident Joseph Roach Missing Since December

Rio Rancho Police Det. Aaron Brown is seeking the public’s assistance in finding former Los Alamos resident Joseph Roach, 31, who was reported missing in January.

Roach was last seen in Rio Rancho in late December 2016, Brown said. Friends have been posting flyers in the area as well as appeals on social media.

Brown asks that anyone with any information as to Roach’s whereabouts call him at 505.891.5930. He said callers may report anonymously if they wish.

Fatality Reported In U.S. 84/285 multivehicle Crash

A woman has died in the multivehicle crash Friday afternoon near Buffalo Thunder on U.S. 84/285. Several others involved in the collision were injured and transported to area hospitals, according to news reports.

The crash caused U.S. 84/285 to be shut down in both directions for hours and commuters from Los Alamos, Española and Santa Fe were directed onto frontage roads.
