A Los Alamos National Laboratory employee has been charged with criminal damage of more than $1,000 to property belonging to another Lab employee following an investigation conducted by Los Alamos Police Det. Sgt. James Rodriguez and Lab investigators.

A Los Alamos man racked up a second charge of battery against a police officer during the July 4 celebration at Overlook Park in White Rock after striking an officer on the forehead with his head.

Los Alamos Police Sgt. Chris Ross was on bike patrol at the park when a family sitting on the ground in anticipation of the fireworks show alerted him to Garrett Eckhart, 35, who was allegedly intoxicated and asked if Ross could get him to leave.

During the Fourth of July holiday, the New Mexico State Police participated in the Combined Accident Reduction Effort (CARE) operation across all roadways within the state.

Drowning Victim Recovered From Cochiti Lake

SANDOVAL COUNTY — Today, the body of Ariel Gonzalez-Vasquez, 34, of Albuquerque was recovered from Cochiti Lake.
 
Gonzalez-Vasquez was reported to have been in the water swimming when large waves and wind made the swimming difficult and he sank and never resurfaced.

Report Of Person Stuck In Elevator Proves False

Los Alamos Police and Firefighters respond to a report this morning of a person stuck in an elevator at the former Hilltop House Hotel at Trinity Drive and Central Avenue. A search did not turn up anyone in either of the two elevators in the building, however, there are signs that someone broke through the chain link fence surrounding the hotel and made their way inside. Police received a report last week from a passerby spotting a person on one of the upper floors. LAFD has left the scene and LAPD remains to continue their investigation. Man Who Committed Double Murder In Clovis Stays In Prison; Supreme Court Affirms Murder Convictions

CLOVIS Attorney General Hector Balderas announced June 30 that Enrique Deleon will stay in prison for the double murder of Guadalupe Castaneda and Joe Valero that he committed while a 5-year-old girl was in a nearby car.
 
The Supreme Court agreed with the Office of the Attorney General’s Criminal Appeals Division and affirmed Deleon’s murder convictions for which he received a sentence of life in prison for each murder. Deleon murdered the couple in Clovis after a fight at a family cookout.
