UPDATE With Photos: Los Alamos Police Bust Drug Traffickers

Editor’s note: It turns out that a serch warrant was executed at 76 Isleta Dr., and police confiscated drugs from the residence. A search warrant also was executed on a vehicle that had parked on Isleta Drive.

Handgun Missing From SOC’s Inventory

LAPD News:

Los Alamos Police Commander Preston Ballew has issued a press release related to a handgun missing from SOC’s inventory. SOC is the contracted physical security force for Los Alamos National Laboratory.

According to Ballew, an officer from his department took a report at approximately 6:35 p.m., Nov. 1 from SOC. The weapon was discovered missing during an inventory check earlier in the day, Ballew stated in the release. The Los Alamos Police Department is investigating this incident and working closely with LANL, DOE and SOC to locate and identify how this weapon became missing. Read More

Oct. 24 at 1:55 p.m. / Police arrested Issac Pearson, 40, of Los Alamos near East Jemez Road and N.M. 4 and charged him with driving on a suspended  or revoked license. 

Oct. 24 at 5:30 p.m. / A 51-year-old Richland man reported that someone broke into a home on Oppenheimer Drive. The estimated loss is unknown.

Police Respond to Graffiti Incident at Aspen Elementary School

LAPD News:

Los Alamos police report that at approximately 9:27 a.m., Oct. 8, Ofc. Ben Irving was dispatched to Aspen Elementary School in reference to graffiti on multiple buildings.

Irving made contact with the reporting party at the school who stated that she came into work that morning and found graffiti on the “music” portable, “school office” portable and on the north door of room 120.

Photos were taken of the graffiti and attached to the case file, Irving stated in his report, adding that all of the graffiti was done with brown spray paint.

Breaking News: Los Alamos Police Arrest Suspects in Check Fraud Case

LAPD News:

Los Alamos Police have arrested three suspects in a check fraud case and two suspects remain at large.

The LAPD Investigations Unit has been working several cases of mail theft, specifically in the White Rock area. Suspects have been targeting victims who leave checks in their mailboxes for the postman to pick up. The suspects have been altering those checks and attempting to cash them.

Council Approves Appointment of New Police Chief

Dino P. Sgambellone

The County Council unanimously approved the appointment of Dino P. Sgambellone as the new police chief of the Los Alamos Police Department.

Sgambellone assumes his new duties next week and will receive an annual salary of $135,600, which is slightly below the midpoint salary range for the police chief position.

He also will receive 40 hours of leave time to move his family to Los Alamos from Ohio where he worked for a local police department for 22 years, the last three as chief of police.

Los Alamos Police Collect 353 Pounds of Pills

Los Alamos Det. Sgt. Oliver Morris reported that the Los Alamos Police Department collected 353 pounds of prescription drugs at Saturday’s “National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day” events in Los Alamos and White Rock.
