Something is killing trees and shrubs on four properties in Pajarito Acres and it has officials baffled and homeowners deeply concerned.

Asking not to be identified, a homeowner who has lost 85-100 trees, spanning more than 24 species since late spring shared their story with the Los Alamos Daily Post.

Letter to the Editor: Los Alamos Police Department Problems Should Be Resolved Post-Haste … Not Left for New Chief to Handle

I can understand Mr. Pippin’s frustration at the system in place to meet the canditates for chief, but his letter brought up additional questions. 

 
The problem with the Police Department seems to be lack of leadership. They should not be waiting for new leadership in the Police Department, but rather be taken care of issues as they arise. And if the Acting Chief doesn’t have the authority to do so, it should be taken care of post-haste by the County Administrator.

That is why the County, and every other government agency, has hierarchical leadership.

Alert: All Roads Reopen Around Los Alamos But County Now Under Flash Flood Warning

The Los Alamos Police Department just announced that all roads around the Los Alamos area have reopened.

Commander Preston Ballew continues to urge motorists to stay off the roadways if at all possible. He asks those drivers who must be on the roads to exercize extreme caution.

The National Weather Service also just issued an alert advising that Los Alamos and the surrounding area is under a flash flood warning until 5 p.m. today. Read More

Breaking News Update: Flooding, Debris Close Roadways – Police Urge Motorists to Take Extreme Caution

The Los Alamos Police Department just announced the following road closures due to the torrential rainstorm plaguing the area:

  • N.M. 4 toward Bandelier;
  • Truck Route;
  • West Road;
  • East Jemez; and
  • West Jemez.

“N.M. 502 is open but there is debris on the road and while the Main Hill Road is open, there is a danger of falling debris,” Commander Preston Ballew told the Los Alamos Daily Post moments ago.
