At approximately 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28 Los Alamos Police Department personnel responded to 25 Bonito Place, the residence of 59-year-old Bonnie Koch, who was found deceased. The New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator is treating the event as an apparent suicide.

Breaking News Update: Los Alamos Police Responding to Possible Shooting Incident

Update: Acting Chief Philmont Taylor told the Los Alamos Daily Post moments ago that the Office of the Medical Investigator is on the way to a residence on Barranca Mesa. Taylor anticipates releasing an official statement regarding the incident by 4 p.m. today.

David Rael of Los Alamos crashed his motorcycle at 5 p.m. Sunday on Diamond Drive.

Police arrested Rael, 35, and charged him with aggravated DWI, assault on a peace officer with a deadly weapon, resisting and evading an officer, concealing his identity, reckless driving, failure to give immediate notification of an accident, driving on a revoked license, driving with no registration and driving with no insurance. Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over Crackdown Underway

SANTA FENew Mexico law enforcement agencies are participating in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2013 “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” nationwide drunk driving crackdown Aug. 16 to Sept. 2.

The campaign coincides with the September Labor Day holiday weekend.

Los Alamos Police Chief Vacancy Draws 40 Applicants

The search for a new police chief moves forward as Police Chief Wayne Torpy officially retires Friday, Aug. 23.

The position posting closed July 26. The County received 40 applications for the position, of which 26 applicants met the minimum qualifications. County Administrator Harry Burgess will select up to five finalists.
