Udall, Heinrich Cosponsor Bill To Allow Medicare To Negotiate A Better Deal On Prescription Drug Costs

WASHINGTON, D.C.  Yesterday, U.S. Senators Tom Udall and Martin Heinrich joined in cosponsoring legislation led by U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) to unleash the bargaining power of seniors for a better deal on prescription drug costs.
 
The legislation would allow for Medicare to negotiate the best possible price of prescription drugs to cut costs for nearly 41 million seniors enrolled in Medicare Part D. Los Alamos County has contracted with Santa Fe trial and appellate attorney John B. Pound to conduct an investigation into an ethics complaint filed against County Councilors Susan O’Leary and James Chrobocinski. In light of the threat of lawsuits against the County made at the July 26 council meeting, it seems ill-advised to discuss further the resolution to expand the Sheriff’s duties and authorities until the legal matters are resolved. Similarly, efforts to modify the County charter under the cloud of legal challenges should be postposed pending a resolution of those issues. The County should not be swayed by the bullying of a few county residents.
