Letter To The Editor: Fair Warning To Council Candidates

I give fair warning to all candidates for County Council: 

I don’t care if you lie and say that you just want the electorate to decide whether or not to have a sheriff. But unless you actively support a ‘no’ vote on the proposal to eliminate the office of sheriff in Los Alamos County, I will find it very difficult if not impossible to vote for you in this upcoming election, no matter how completely we agree on other issues.

Governor Expands Early Pre-K Investment

SANTA FE — Gov. Susana Martinez has announced an additional $3.5 million investment in New Mexico’s Early Pre-K pilot program, bringing the total investment to more than $10.5 million over the last two years.
 
“In New Mexico, we’re committed to giving our kids a head start in their education because no matter their background, every child can learn,” Martinez said. “Expanding our investment in this important program helps us ensure that more of our kids start school prepared to learn.”

Air Force Releases RFP For Replacement To Nuclear Air Launched Cruise Missile

USAF News:

The U.S. Air Force released today a request for proposals to industry for its Long Range Standoff, or LRSO, nuclear cruise missile program. Up to two contract awards are expected in 4th quarter fiscal year 2017.

The Long Range Stand-Off weapon will be developed to replace the aging AGM-86B Air Launched Cruise Missile. The AGM-86B was fielded in the early 1980s with a 10-year design life. The current ALCM remain safe, secure and effective, it is facing increasingly sustainment and operational challenges against evolving threats.

Senate Democrats Push Governor To Convene Emergency Special Session

SANTA FE – Senate Democrats have called on Gov. Susana Martinez to convene the New Mexico Legislature in an emergency special session to fix the quickly expanding budget deficit that has resulted from plummeting state revenues.

A new report last week revealed that the State spent between $150-$200 million more than it had budgeted in the fiscal year that just ended, and the year ahead looks even worse. Heinrich Welcomes DOJ Request To Retrieve Stolen Acoma Pueblo Shield

WASHINGTON, D.C.  U.S. Sen. Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) welcomed the news that the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is seeking a warrant to retrieve a stolen Pueblo of Acoma religious shield that’s being held in France.
