Notice is hereby given by the Democratic Party of Los Alamos County of the  Combined Ward Meetings and County Post-Primary Convention to be held Saturday, June 11, 2016  at 9 a.m. at 170 Central Park Square (next to Quiznos) in Los Alamos, New Mexico.
 
Los Alamos County Democrats will meet to elect 16 Delegates to the Congressional District and State Post-Primary Conventions.

SANTA FE  The New Mexico Office of the State Auditor (OSA) has identified a pattern of chronic budgetary shortfalls related to the state’s election expenses.
 
In a letter to Secretary of State Brad Winter, State Auditor Tim Keller outlined ten consecutive fiscal years of under-budgeting, which created a need for $25 million in emergency loans, grants and special appropriations to fund elections. New Mexico Receives $3 Million For Foreclosure Legal Assistance For Homeowners

ALBUQUERQUE  New Mexico has received $3.3 million to help provide legal assistance to homeowners facing foreclosure.
 
The money is from a 2014 settlement with Bank of America and its subsidiaries over mortgage practices. Terms of the settlement restrict use of the money to foreclosure prevention legal assistance and community redevelopment. In New Mexico, the money will be awarded to legal aid groups based on grant applications. There are about 5,000 open mortgage foreclosure cases in the state.

Council Calls For Letters Of Interest For Probate Judge

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Councilors responded during Tuesday night’s meeting to the resignation of Probate Judge Bill McKerley.

McKerley wrote a letter dated May 19, 2016 to Council Chair Rick Reiss that his resignation will be effective upon appointment of a replacement. McKerley was appointed to the position Feb. 16 after Probate Judge Chris Chandler resigned.
