Agreement Keeps North America’s Largest Powwow In Albuquerque

STATE News:

ALBUQUERQUE — Today, Gov. Susana Martinez and Gathering of Nations Founder Derek Mathews announced an agreement to ensure that North America’s largest powwow remains in New Mexico for years to come.

With the agreement, the Gathering of Nations will be held at Tingley Coliseum and the New Mexico State Fairgrounds for the next four years, with an option for an additional four years. EXPO New Mexico General Manager Dan Mourning, Albuquerque Mayor Richard J. Berry, and the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce joined Martinez and Mathews for the announcement.

Martin Heinrich, D-N.M., will nconvene a roundtable discussion at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, with university and college presidents and Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) representatives in Santa Fe to discuss ways to increase job-training opportunities for positions at LANL.

Martinez On DFA Cabinet Secretary’s Retirement

SANTA FE — Gov. Susana Martinez announced that New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration Cabinet Secretary Tom Clifford will retire effective May 27.
 
Secretary Clifford has served as DFA cabinet secretary since August 2011 and was unanimously confirmed twice by the New Mexico State Senate in February 2012 and in March 2015. Duffy Rodriguez, Deputy Secretary of DFA, will serve as acting Cabinet Secretary.
