Learn more about the geology, history and preservation of the Grand Canyon at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 21 at the Los Alamos Nature Center, 2600 Canyon Road.

Evan Rose will tell the story of a trip on the Colorado River with geologists and adventurers. Showing detailed photos, he will discuss the origins of the Grand Canyon and its conservation. This is a free talk organized by the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC).

Triatomics Splash n’ Dash #1 Results

Triatomics Splash n Dash series started Wednesday night. Clay Mosely turned in the overall best time of 27:01 on the long course. At total of 45 athletes participated including four youth. 
 
There will be three more Splash n Dashes this summer. The next one will be held June 22. Registration is from 6:20 to 6:50 at the back of the Aquatic center and the first swimmer starts at 7. The event is free and open to athletes of all abilities and ages.

Last year a new element was added to Chamberfest – The Showdown at High Noon. This competition pits two friendly groups against each other in an entertaining competition at noon right in the middle of Central Avenue.

In the WGN series MANH(A)TTAN, the fictional scientists were searching for answers to solve the questions of nuclear implosion or nuclear fission. Amidst secrecy and intrigue in a hidden government town, they found ways to fulfill their social and daily shopping and dining needs.

Fifty campfires have been left either unattended or abandoned on the Santa Fe National Forest from Memorial Day weekend to present.

Splash N Dash Pushes Off Wednesday

It’s time for the annual Splash n Dash sponsored by the Triatomics Multisports Club. The first event is Wednesday, June 8. The County moved the date of the Los Alamos Triathlon up this year so the Splash n Dashes have moved up as well.

Three courses:

  • 400M swim + 5K run
  • 200M swim + 3K run
  • Youth course (Run must be accompanied by a parent)

Registration/Start/Finish take place in the back of the Aquatic Center. Registration opens at 6:20 p.m. daily, instructions are given at 6:50 p.m., and the first swimmer pushes off at 7 p.m. Participation is limited to 75 athletes each night.
