The Family YMCA in Los Alamos is hosting its annual Firecracker 5K Family Fun Run Saturday, July 4.
 
The 5K is open to all ages that want to walk, run, or jog in this festive event. Prizes will go to the top male and female finishers in Youth, Adult, Adult 60+, and Dog Jogger. The best Costumed Participant will win Bagels-for-a-Year from Ruby K’s. All participants will get the annual Fun Run t-shirt and are eligible to win random door prizes.

Full Moon Run In Valles Caldera July 31

There will be a full moon run July 31 in the Valles Caldera National Preserve starting at the main staging area.
 
The run will start at sundown (8:11 p.m) with the full moon rising about 10 minutes later. The course will be out and back on dirt roads. Aid stations will be set up at 2.5 miles and 5 miles. Runners can turn around at either aid station or at any shorter distance of their choice.
 
Awards will be given to the first male and female completing 5 mile or 10 mile distances. All entrants are eligible for many random prizes that also will be given out.

TAOS — Now in its 10th year, the Up and Over 10K Run in the Taos Ski Valley will hit the ground running with a challenging 6.2 mile trail run on Aug. 1.
 
And, to celebrate trail running, there will be a presentation of nine inspirational films at the “Trails in Motion Film Festival,” July 31.

In the 1-mile race, Martin Pieck was 27 seconds and Bob Weeks was 29 seconds off their predictions. Tuesday’s pace race was held on trails to the Estante Overlook and in Portrillo Canyon.
