Ed Griggs Memorial Golf Classic Rescheduled To July 10

YMCA News:

The Y’s Ed Griggs Memorial Golf classic has been rescheduled for Friday, July 10, with player check-in at 8 a.m., and shotgun start at 9 a.m. at the Los Alamos Golf Course.

This day and time was selected in the hope of avoiding monsoon weather. The dinner and prize awards are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the  Cottonwoods on the Green restaurant at the golf course.

JEMEZ SPRINGS – In 1752 by flying a kite during a thunderstorm, Benjamin Franklin proved that lightning was not a supernatural power but a natural phenomenon called electricity.

On June 20, the Valles Caldera Trust will prove that flying kites is naturally fun for everyone.

Help color the skies during the Kites in the Valle event 1-5 p.m. June 20 at the Valles Caldera National Preserve. Junior Golf Association Club Swap June 21

The Los Alamos Junior Golf Association (non-profit) will host its annual club swap 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday June 21, at Los Alamos Golf Course. 
 
We are accepting donations of used golf equipment. Donations can be dropped off between now and June 21 at the golf course pro shop.
 
The sale will benefit the local junior golf association as well as the Los Alamos High School Golf Team.

Thursday’s field trip for the Los Alamos School of Gymnastics Summer Sports Camp was to the stables on North Mesa. Twenty three day camp participants took pony rides on Lola, guided by Camp Counselor and horse owner Amy Casson. Casson, a 2014 graduate of UCSD grew up participating in the Los Alamos School of Gymnastics Summer Sport Camp yearly. Environmental Class ‘Learning On The Links’ Held At Los Alamos County Golf Course

In collaboration with the Teen Center, Pajarito Environmental Education Center, the Department of Utilities and the Los Alamos Golf Course, Matthew Allen, Golf Course superintendent, recently completed a new educational class with teens.

“Learning on the Links” was designed to introduce teens to environmental concerns and how they relate to various types of facilities in Los Alamos County. Classes were held for six weeks during the spring school semester and 17 students participated.

Drier Weather May Increase Commissary Fire Activity

SFNF News:

The Commissary Fire on the Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District continues to burn naturally. Fire managers are monitoring and managing the fire as a tool to meet multiple resource objectives. 

The fire is now approximately 160 acres. 

Fire crews observed a much more active day Monday with burning close to the ground in the fallen needles and underbrush along the west side. Fire growth was short-lived due to higher humidity and increased cloud cover.
