YMCA Fencing Class Begins Tuesday, Sept. 2

YMCA News:

The YMCA fencing class starts at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2. The class is for fencers with previous experience.

There will be 30 minutes of combined class drills, followed by 30 minutes of bouting and/or individual instruction. Experienced fencers interested only in bouting should come at 7 p.m.  The next beginning fencing class for those with no experience will start in Feburary or March 2015.

Gattiker Top Predictor In Aquatic Center Trail Pace Race

ACRR News:
 
Katie Gattiker was the best predictor at 5 seconds off her prediction in the Atomic City Road Runners Club’s weekly pace race held on the “Jim Billen” Trail in Pueblo Canyon behind the Aquatic Center with an accompanying light rain. 
 
Jessica Baumgaertel was next with a 48 second differential followed by Jackie Marr with at 92 seconds off as well as the first female on the 1 mile paved course at 14:06. Four-year-old Diego Leonard had a 93 second difference and also was the overall winner on the 1 mile paved course with a time of 12:29.

Free Bridge Lessons At Pinon and LAMS

Volunteers from the Los Alamos Duplicate Bridge Club are offering free bridge lessons, starting the first week of September, to students at Los Alamos Middle School and to students in grades 3-6 at Pinon Elementary School.

Fate of Pajarito Ski Area in Public’s Hands … Proposed Temporary Pipeline Permit Meeting Tonight

The proposed Pajarito Ski Area temporary pipeline permit will be explained at a public meeting at 6 p.m. today.

The Española Ranger District is hosting the meeting at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church, 3900 Trinity Dr. in Los Alamos. The meeting will be in Kelly Hall on the Trinity Dr. side of the church.

Bandelier Bans Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

Bandelier National Monument has announced that until further notice, the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV’s) or other unmanned aircraft is prohibited in the monument.  

The popularity of UAV’s is rapidly rising, and they are increasingly being seen in National Parks and other protected areas that visitors seek out for quiet and solitude, not for the presence of buzzing drones.
