Registration Open For Wuldor Tournament At ULLR Fest

SPORTS News:

Registration is open for the Wuldor Tournament during ULLR Fest Sept. 20 at Pajarito Mountain.

Wuldor is a unique mountain disc golf tournament. Entries are $15 for Pro and $10 for all other divisions. Cash payout for top of field. Divisions will be Pro/Advanced/Novice. First 20 players to register will receive player packs.

To ensure fair play, enter your Division level:

  • Pro;
  • Advanced – anyone having played in two or more prior tournaments; and
  • Novice – beginner players only.

Divisions may change based on number of registrants.

Twenty four people competed in Tuesday’s Atomic City Road Runners Pace Race. The course was a fairly flat 1-mile paved loop mainly on Estante Way in Pajarito Acres.

Nikol Strother was only 11 seconds off for 6 miles at Tuesday’s pace race, and David Kratzer’s delta time for 5 miles was 13 seconds.

The September meeting of the Los Alamos Mountaineers will feature a presentation by Carol Kotchek, a staff member at the American Alpine Club who has been climbing for more than 30 years, including a number of years working classic climbs in the Yosemite Valley.

Bill Rice was only 3 seconds off his predicted time in the weekly Atomic City Road Runners Pace Race on the Burnt Mesa Trail in Bandelier. 
 
A host of other participants recorded accurate prediction times:
  • Tamara Jurado was 10 seconds off;
  • Artemia Rojas recorded a 11 second differential;
  • Katie Gattiker was 13 seconds off;
  • Lauraine Maness and Nick Parra-Vasquez tied at 15 seconds; and
  • Linda Vance had a 35 second difference.

The Annual Jerry Bower Memorial 5K Race begins at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20 to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.
 
The Race will start at the rear entrance of the Betty Ehart Senior Center off Bathtub Row and Rose Street and run on an all paved course just north of downtown Los Alamos. The course map is detailed on the registration form. Alzheimer’s Association water bottles will be given out to the first 50 participants.
 
A donation of $25 is requested.

Beginning Flamenco Dance Class resumed Saturday, Sept. 6 at the White Rock Activity Center. 

Flamenco dance has become a popular dance form worldwide because of its powerful lines, intense percussive rhythms, and the beautiful traditional melodies that cannot help but inspire movment. It comes from Southern Spain and ties together the cultures of Western Europe, Northern Africa and South Asia in its unique blend of gypsy and folk history.

Snow Best Predictor in Weekly Pace Race

Mary Snow was the best predictor in the weekly pace race held on the Estante Way Trail in White Rock with a 15 second differential. 
 
David Kratzer was just behind her at 16 seconds off his predicted time. Other top predictors were Georgia Pedicini at 21 seconds off and Nikol Strother who also was the fastest female on the 3 mile course with a time of 21:55 with a 25 second difference.
 
The top runner on the 1 mile course was Tamara Jurado with a time of 9:12. The fastest male was Brian Newnam at 10:51. Ted Romero was the first runner on the 3 mile course recording a 20:44.
