LAFD: Public Safety Highest Priority At Fireworks Display

Los Alamos Fire Chief Troy Hughes commented this morning on public safety and the upcoming fireworks display sponsored by the Kiwanis Club.

 

The County contracts with the Kiwanis to provide the fireworks for the popular, family-friendly annual event held at Overlook Park in White Rock each Independence Day. At this point, the fireworks display is scheduled to go on as planned; however, Hughes stressed that many public safety and fire-wise considerations have been taken into account in the early planning stages.

Members of the Los Alamos Duplicate Bridge Club are offering free bridge lessons for students in Grades 4-12. These lessons are also being sponsored by the County Recreation Department.

At 8 a.m. today, all trails on the Santa Fe National Forest have closed due to fire danger.

This includes, but is not limited to:

Sections of the Perimeter Trail (visit www.losalamosnm.us and Parks/Open Space & Trails/Trails Network to link to a land ownership map for details)

  • Mitchell Trail above (north of) the Perimeter Trail
  • Rendija Trail, Pajarito Trail, Cabra Loop
  • Guaje Ridge Trail, Guaje Canyon Trail
  • Pipeline Road
  • Quemazon Trail from about 0.6 miles above the trailhead
  • Cañada Bonita Trail (Guaje Canyon Trail)

Great American Backyard Campout Saturday at Bandelier

Thousands of people around the nation will gather to take part in a one-night event called the “Great American Backyard Campout” Saturday, June 22.

The Los Alamos County Recreation Division presents the Los Alamos County Horse Show at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 20 at Brewer Arena.

Horse Show registration forms are available at the Aquatic Center or visit www.losalamosnm.us/rec. The deadline for pre-registration is 5 p.m. Wednesday, July 17. Return all registration forms to the Aquatic Center.

Members of the Los Alamos Duplicate Bridge Club are offering free bridge lessons for Students in grades 4-12, starting this week.

Gear Donations Needed for Junior Golf Club Swap

The Los Alamos Junior Golf Association Annual Club Swap is set for 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, June 30 under the big tent at the Los Alamos Golf Course.
