The newly forming Los Alamos / Northern New Mexico Chapter of the Society of Catholic Scientists (SCS) is pleased to invite the community to its inaugural talk, 6:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, in the Karen McLaughlin Parish Hall at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

The talk is sponsored jointly with the group of Dominican Laity in Los Alamos and includes, beginning at 6:15 p.m., a light dinner.

Hundreds of robotics enthusiasts gathered Aug. 23 at the Bradbury Science Museum, when more than 30 robotics teams from around the region were joined by the Los Alamos Police Department bomb diffusing robots, UNM-LA’s Robotics Degree Program and Los Alamos STEM Lab.

In 1973, the alumni of the Los Alamos Ranch School arranged a huge reunion in Santa Fe. Many of the former students flew to Chicago just to take a special train to Lamy, a route many of them had taken as young boys.

John Shedd Reed, CEO of the Santa Fe Railroad and a member of the LARS Class of 1933, made the cars on that special train available. Once in Santa Fe, the alumni stayed at Bishop’s Lodge, then owned by Jim Thorpe, LARS Class of 1942.
