The Ark Preschool will hold a fundraising event, Fat Tuesday Around the World, 5:45-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9 at the First United Methodist Fellowship Hall, 715 Diamond Dr., in Los Alamos.

A sit down, four-course meal consisting of Prime Rib & Salmon will be served. Vegetarian option for a delicious cheese based soup will also be offered. Donations are  greatly appreciated as this is a fundraising event. There will be live entertainment, a silent auction and door prizes. Public childcare is NOT provided for this event. Human Trafficking Protest In Pojoaque Feb. 6

The United Methodist Women of the First United Methodist Church will be staging a protest against human trafficking at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, in Pojoaque on Rt. 285.
 
Most people in the U.S. think human trafficking is something that happens in other countries and not here. But they are wrong. The United States, and specifically New Mexico, has a huge problem with human trafficking. The local news has recently been asking for help in catching a wanted trafficker in Albuquerque.

Being called jealous is not typically a compliment. When people are considered to be jealous, they are thought to be in a state of mind that is ugly, selfish, insecure, and even harmful. These are things that are in direct contrast to what we think of when we think of love; so it can be very difficult for us to reconcile jealousy with love. The new church under construction for the congregation of the Unitarian Church of Los Alamos is moving right along.

The new building, designed by Mullen|Heller Architecture, is being built on the site of the previous church at 1738 North Sage St. between the Latter-Day Saints and the Masonic Lodge. It is scheduled for completion this spring.

The Unitarian Church of Los Alamos is hosting its annual community seed swap.

The swap is 9 a.m. to noon, Sunday Feb. 7 and 14, at the church at 195 East Road, Suite 101.

Remember:

  • Bring only packets of seeds you wish to give away entirely. You may not get any back!
  • Take only enough seeds to use in one growing season.
  • If you are sharing seeds you’ve saved from your garden, please mark them clearly with the name of the plant and the year from which they were saved.

Knights Of Columbus Sponsors Youth 2016 Free Throw Championship Jan. 31

All boys and girls ages 9 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship.
 
The local competition is 1-3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 31 at LAHS Griffith Gymnasium. Registration is free of charge and will be held onsite beginning at 12:30 p.m. on the date of the event. Parental consent is required, so a parent/guardian must be present during registration.
