Water Communion Ceremony at Unitarian Church Sunday

The Unitarian Church of Los Alamos returns to its regular schedule Sunday, Sept. 7.

This week, the church year opens with its annual water communion ceremony – a mingling and sharing of waters from summer journeys – and Rev. John Cullinan will preach on water as a symbol of common humanity.

The church choir sings this Sunday, performing the traditional hymn “Peace Like a River,” and “All the Rivers” by Charles Baker, based on the words of Ecclesiastes. The worship service is preceded by the weekly forum at 9 a.m. and children’s religious education at 9:30 a.m.

Community Bible Study Begins Day Class Focusing on ‘Return to Jerusalem’ Aug. 28

The Los Alamos day class of Community Bible Study will begin its 2014-15 class at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 28.

This year’s study, “Return to Jerusalem” focuses on the return of Israel from Babylonian exile, and will specifically cover the books of Ezra, Nehemiah, Esther, Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi.

This is the Los Alamos day class’s 22nd year of meeting. There are 61 women and 20 children registered, representing more than 16 local churches.

The day class meets 9:15 a.m. Thursdays at the Christian Church, 92 East Road in Los Alamos.

Services for Trent Johnson will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday Aug. 23 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Los Alamos. The address is 1967 18th St.

Johnson, 39, died Monday in a single vehicle crash off N.M. 4 near mile marker 49. He worked for 14 years at Los Alamos National Bank.
