Solstice Gathering at Unitarian Church Saturday

UNITARIAN CHURCH News:

The Unitarian Church of Los Alamos will hold its annual Solstice Gathering at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21 in the church parking lot. The outdoor ritual is for all ages and open to all faith traditions. 

At this simple ceremony, the group will create a spiral of light as they honor the darkness, celebrate the return of the light and join in singing and fellowship.

A gathering with cider and treats follows indoors. Those attending are invited to bring something to share. Dress warmly. Everyone is invited to mark the turning of the year at the Solstice Gathering

Every year, for the past 10 years joy is brought to children who don’t have the most ideal situation at home.
Each Christmas, Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos helps give children in Santa Fe and the surrounding areas, a brighter holiday through the Angel Tree. The Angel Tree is a Christmas tree set up in the church and is covered with tags listing the requests of children in need of gifts. The parish community members fulfill the tag requests to help families who can’t afford presents for their children.

Saint Dimitri Orthodox Church is holding its 15th annual Holiday Bake Sale 1-3 p.m., Dec. 22. This sweet sale is a popular fixture of the holiday season in Los Alamos. 

The congregation bakes Greek and Russian cookies and pastries, including baklava, Russian tea cakes and more.

Father John Calbom is the guest priest visiting Saint Dimitri Orthodox Church where he will serve Divine Liturgy Sunday morning, Dec 8.

Rev. Calbom, M.A., is an inspirational speaker, corporate chaplain, consultant, certified HeartMath provider, and a Russian Orthodox (ROCOR) priest with degrees in theology and psychology. Each week there are two different shows called “Redeemer Theological Academy Lectures” and “Christ in the Old Testament.”
