Los Alamos High School graduate Duncan Fuehne ran a great race Dec. 2 at D2 Nationals. Fuehne finished 3rd overall in 29:43 for the 10K course. He was the 2nd finisher for National Championship Colorado School of Mines (teammate Dillon Powell was Individual Champ). The Oredigger men won their third NCAA Division II Men’s Cross Country National Championship since 2015.

With a mini-run early in the third quarter, the Los Alamos Hilltopper boys basketball team looked like it would be able to keep pace with the Capital Jaguars.

Abiquiu Lake will hold its Midwinter Eagle Count Saturday, Jan. 7. Those interested in participating should meet at 9 a.m. at the Abiquiu Lake Visitors Center. This popular event is held annually and counts the number of bald and golden eagles that winter at the lake each year.

In addition to the eagles, Abiquiu Lake hosts flocks of waterfowl, including Canada geese. This is a great opportunity for bird watchers. Dress warmly.

County: Public Skating At Ice Rink Canceled Today

Due to warmer than usual weather and rain this morning, the Los Alamos County Ice Rink will be canceling today’s public skate session, that was to be held 3-6:45 p.m., in order to preserve the ice for the Los Alamos Hockey Association Winter Classic Hockey Tournament, Dec. 27-30, which will host games with regional and out-of-state leagues, based on hockey official’s safety advisory, early in the mornings and in the evenings, when the ice is at its hardest.

FBI: Former Coach From Pecos Pleads Guilty To Coercion And Enticement Of Minors – Faces Up To Life In Prison

ALBUQUERQUE – Alexander M.M. Uballez, United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico, announced that Joshua Rico pleaded guilty Dec. 22 to five counts of coercion and enticement of minors. Rico, 26, of Pecos, N.M., will remain in custody pending sentencing, which has not been scheduled.

The big news this week is that Eagle Nest Lake has been opened for ice fishing. This is the best and most popular lake for ice fishing in New Mexico. It is well-stocked with rainbow trout. This year it has been more heavily-stocked than previous years.
