Hilltopper Graduate to Swim at Division III NCAA Championship

Kara Leasure, 2008 Los Alamos High School graduate and Bates College senior captain, is set to compete at the 2012 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships on March 21-24, at the Indiana Natatorium in Indianapolis.  Kara won the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) title in the 200 breaststroke on Feb. 19, finishing with a new personal best of 2:21.11, breaking her own Bates record.  She also topped off the regular season by recording national consideration times of 4:35.58 in the 400 individual medley, and a 5:04:09 in her 500 freestyle.

Lobos Move On To Third Round While Aggies Are Out At March Madness


The University of New Mexico Lobos have won their second round game in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament. The Lobos, in a closely contested game, beat Long Beach 75-68 in Portland Oregon.  The fifth seed Lobos, with a record of 28-6, will move on to the third round of the Western Division Tournament when they take on the fourth seed Louisville Cardinals, with a record of 27-9, in a game scheduled for Saturday at 7:40 PM in Portland Oregon.

President Obama Picks Lobos for Sweet Sixteen

The 44th President of the United States,  Barack Obama, has picked the University of New Mexico Lobos college basketball team to make it all the way to the NCAA’s March Madness Sweet Sixteen Tournament, which begins March 22nd. The Lobos will play Long Beach State tonight (Thursday, March 15) at 4:10PM ET in Portland Oregon. The President went on to predicted that the New Mexico State Aggies would lose to Indiana in tonight’s second round match-up scheduled for 9:45PM ET.

The 14 & Under under New Mexico State Short Course Swim Meet was held Feb. 24-26 at West Mesa Aquatic Center in Albuquerque.

Eighteen teams from across New Mexico participated in the 3-day event and 112 different events were raced.

Team AQLUB from Tokyo Japan will train at the Larry R. Walkup Aquatic Center Feb. 16-March 8 because of this year’s Olympic Trials. Girls Hockey Team Young but Competitive

Now in its second season, the Los Alamos U12 Girls hockey team has improved substantially over its inaugural season. This group of 16 girls will face Gunnison at home Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 11 and 12.

In the 2010-11 season, the Los Alamos Hockey Association formed this team comprised of girls ages 12 and under. The team was young, drawing from three different hockey age groups to roster enough girls to play.
