White Powder Sent to New Mexico Governor

STATE News:

A suspicious envelope with white powder was sent to New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez’s office this afternoon.

The envelope was discovered about 3 p.m. while the governor’s staff was processing and sorting incoming mail. A white powdery substance spilled out of one of the envelopes, according to reports.

Staff members called the Department of Public Safety and State Homeland Security Department for directions on how to respond. Two staffers who came in contact with the substance were quarantined.

Udall Announces $1 Million to Expand NM Children’s Health Insurance

ALBUQUERQUE – U.S. Sen. Tom Udall, D-N.M., has announced that the New Mexico Human Services Department is receiving $1 million in federal grant money to expand health insurance for children in New Mexico through Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP.)

The funding comes from the Affordable Care Act and will be used to to increase the number of children eligible, but not yet enrolled in, Medicaid and CHIP, and to keep them covered for as long as they qualify. These resources will be used to simplify the enrollment process for New Read More

Forest Remains Closed This Weekend

SANTA FE—“The Santa Fe National Forest will remain closed to public access through the Fourth of July weekend,” Forest Supervisor Maria Garcia said.

The isolated rain showers received over the past week have helped to reduce fire danger and forest officials are considering which parts of the Santa Fe National Forest will be safe to open next week.

“Rainfall and a decrease in fires, does not mean the forest will reopen unless all conditions are safe,” she added.
