Los Alamos High School Students Garner Awards In Regeneron International Science And Engineering Fair

Four Los Alamos High School students garnered awards in the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair held virtually May 16-21.

The team of Phillip Ionkov and Anthony Lestone were awarded $2,000 and a second place in the Physics and Astronomy category for their project, Nondestructive Analysis of Geological Sites Through Muon Transmission Imaging.

Karin Ebey placed fourth in Animal Sciences for her project on Climate Change on Crocodilians: Modeling the Effects of Phenological Shifts.

The moon viewed at about 5:10 a.m. today near the Los Alamos County Airport shortly before it approached full eclipse and slipped behind the morning haze. According to space.com, this moon is a ‘supermoon’ as the lunar phase coincides with our satellite’s closest approach to Earth. Heinrich, Luján Urging Immediate Ceasefire In Middle East

U.S. SENATE News:

WASHINGTON (May 17, 2021) – U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.), joined by a group of Senate colleagues led by U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) in calling for an immediate ceasefire agreement in Israel and the Palestinian territories to prevent further loss of life and further escalation of violence.

“To prevent any further loss of civilian life and to prevent further escalation of conflict in Israel and the Palestinian territories, we urge an immediate ceasefire,” the 28 Senators said in a joint statement.
