Daily Postcard: Sandhill Cranes circling overhead Wednesday in White Rock. Sandhill Cranes mate for life—which can mean two decades or more. Sandhill Crane chicks can leave the nest within 8 hours of hatching, and are even capable of swimming. The earliest Sandhill Crane fossil, estimated to be 2.5 million years old, was unearthed in the Macasphalt Shell Pit in Florida. Los Alamos County Library Board December Update
For many, the end of the year is a time of reflection, and the Library is no different. At the December board meeting, Library Manager Gwen Kalavaza gave an update on the Library’s Strategic Plan 2024-2027, which is based on the Community Services Integrated Master Plan.
The Library has made significant progress toward its goals, including the addition of Hindi materials to the collection, online access to the Wall Street Journal, and coordination with Social Services to offer drop-in evening hours at both libraries.

‘Ratcracker On The Hill’ Opens Friday At Smith Auditorium

It’s that time of year again! Dance Arts Los Alamos (DALA) is performing its yearly production of the Nutcracker, but with a twist. This year’s production is the second installment of Artistic Director Jonathan Guise’s “Nutcracker on the Hill” trilogy.
Last year’s Nutcracker transported the audience back in time to a Christmas Party in Fuller Lodge in 1944. We saw the swing dancing Manhattan Project characters admire the Nutcracker given to Gwen Groves (the daughter of General Groves), and the Spy sneaking into
