Spanish Language Book Club For Learners Meets Nov. 17

COMMUNITY News:

The Los Alamos Spanish Language Book Club will have its second meeting at 2 p.m., Nov. 17 at Samizdat Bookstore and Teahouse.

The group is reading the Spanish language edition of Solito, by Javier Zamora, which is available for purchase from Samizdat Bookstore & Teahouse.

The group meets at 2 p.m. the third Sunday of every month at Samizdat, 174 Central Park Square, which  is free and open to all. For the Nov. 17 meeting, the group will read up to page 52.

Maria Jönsson studied textiles at Sigtuna Folk College in Sweden in the mid 1980s. She then went on to receive a BFA and MA in Studio Art Fiber/Fabric at Northern Illinois University in 1989/1991. During her years in Sweden she learned more traditional weaving techniques. In the US she explored and experimented with non-traditional materials in weaving such as metal, wire, or any material that could be woven on a loom.

After moving to New Mexico in the 1990s she continued to create and sell her fiber art while building a career as an archaeologist. Read More

Small Portion Of New Mexico History Museum’s Lower-Level Exhibits Closed For Repair Following Recent Storm

New Mexico History Museum News:

Due to leaks from a recent storm, a small portion of the lower level of the will be temporarily closed.

The Manhattan Project and My New Mexico displays, as well as the small theater, are inaccessible to visitors while necessary repairs are made.

None of the objects in the exhibits were damaged. The majority of the lower level, including mezzanine displays and Telling New Mexico Stories from Then and Now 1911 through WWII exhibitions remain open to the public. Regular admission fees will apply.
