Daily Postcard: A rare Wilson’s Snipe showed up this week at Overlook Park in White Rock. Wilson’s Snipe spend summers from Colorado to the Arctic Circle, then winter from Bosque del Apache NWR all the way south to Ecuador. But this week, several birders in Los Alamos and from across northern New Mexico enjoyed four of those migrants at the ball fields in Overlook Park. Foraging by driving their long beaks into moist ground like the needle on a sewing machine, these birds prefer marshes rather than the alpine forests and dry canyons of the Jemez.
